Run database role from internal IP

Hi, I would like to run only a database role on a server with an internal IP.

I have used the method adding a hosts entry to point to the application server's internal IP, and it adds successfully and works. On the control panel it shoes the internal IP.

However, when I enable the external firewall, the application server loses all contact with it.

Is it possible to do this? There internal network has no ports closed.

Yes, I agree. This is needed.

If the server was added to the cluster using the internal IP then all communications should happen on that IP. Do the servers have the same subnet mask? If not, the traffic will go via the default gateway and presumably be subject to any firewall rules you have in place.
