Heztner Cloud Reliability

Not sure if this is allowed/welcome here if not lemme know... wanted to get some input from people who take quality hosting more seriously than people in most communities.

Any have experience with Heztner VPS reliability at a US location (ie Ashburn)? I ran a benchmark and they have inferior Disk IO to Linode but better dedicated CPU at half the price and twice the memory.

I've seen a lot of negative reviews that amount to suspension without warning but half are written like an angry scammer attracted to their pricing, so its hard to tell if legit businesses face an increased risk compared to other providers like Linode, Vultr etc. Lots more reviews from people who clearly don't know what they are doing.

I use Linode (or maybe heztner) for low traffic and non woo/member sites and in the last year never had downtime on Linode's end

I have tested many hetzner,vultr,linode,upcloud instances, and the results are very mixed, you can end up on a very good node or not so good one. Hetzner in that matter, seems to offer a very good (not the best) Dis I/O, one of the best CPU performance, but the best price for the specs, so pretty much what your bench showed up.

About the hetzner suspensiones, i have seent those on LET and Reddit, can't comment much on that, i do see many are from China or Russia, and legal issues (that's a guess) for Hetzner to offer them services. i have been using hetzner different services for years, without a problem, and i hope it stays like that.

I have never seen hetzner downtime yet. i also have some instances with linode, not monitored, since are very low-priority things, but never saw an issue either.

at te moment i would say they both are very safe and stable alternatives.

Thats good to hear! I've tested Linode's new datacenter location (Chicago) and at least a few times a month odd network stuff happens. I notice it because I use it for my VPN. Kinda disapointed as I would expect better since its no longer a beta location.

wmonline just remember to spread your servers, so that they are not all on the same node (placement groups).

Hadn't thought of that. Its unfortunate that so many reviews when you read between lines are "scam they dennied my account!" How is it a scam when they lost no money lol. I was dennied too because I use a VPN and a polite email cleared it up.... Review sites/forums can be such a cesspool.

I have been a Hetzner customer for 6 years. They're great.
Have purchased many dedicated servers (auction and "regular") and even more VPS's.
I've got several setups in production with them.

I've never had an outage, if a drive fails on a dedi it's usually replaced within 30mins, tickets are always answered very quickly 24/7, if I ever need an urgent KVM session I can usually get it within the hour, network is clean and fast, etc... I have zero complaints if I'm honest. Highly recommend them.

Actually, my only complaint is their IPv4 pricing - but that's it.

Just don't do anything that contravenes their TOS, don't get a billing suspension, and you'll be absolutely fine!

Hetzner is good, also been using them for years. I find Helsinki the best in terms of service and reliability. When building your cluster, just remember to spread your servers, so that they are not all on the same node (placement groups). Recently started using the American data centers, so far so good.

Also, update your VPS's nameservers to use google or cloudflare, Hetzners DNS is sometimes slow to propagate.

As wmonline said, be sure to either request or select VM’s to run on different nodes. Even though we have run our own hardware/DC for years, we still utilize vm’s on various other cloud providers. With nearly all of them, you can open a ticket and request that various VM’s not run on same hardware node, or simply select another nearby region.

Hetzner is great for CPU/RAM. I have never pushed disk I/O on the vm’s we utilized with them.

I will say their build-out in Ashburn is state of the art.

No experience with US, but chosen them to host our control panel as they have been great

Hetzner in the US is our new go to datacenter... then Vultr, then Linode, then DO.

Quite happy so far.

I've got a node in Hilsboro, OR and I too thought it was a little under performant compared to DO in SF. That said have you done MySQL performance tuning, because Enhance doens't do this and it does make a big difference to backend logins and WordPress admin use.
