Kosta Most of the servers aren’t mine – they belong to clients, friends, or family. I manage and monitor them to keep things running smoothly. For kernel live patching (I wrote a guide on this), I only use KernelCare. They all run on Hetzner.
At home, I have a ZimaBoard with Beszel and Uptime Kuma for basic monitoring. If I notice an issue, I SSH in to investigate. I also use it for backups on an external SSD. To automate tasks, I rely on Ansible.
Many servers are for gaming, while others run mail, self-hosted WordPress sites, or coding projects for friends. For security, I use tools like Auditd, ClamAV, Maldet, and many more. For monitoring, I use server-level (built-in) commands and tools. I recently started using Wazuh for my cybersecurity studies, and it’s been working well so far.
Edit: Sorry, I forgot to mention costs. Besides the ZimaBoard, the total cost for servers and paid products is over $1,000 per month. However, about 80% of that is covered by the people who own the servers. I only manage them for now – I don’t offer a service.
