Should I use IPv6 on CP and DNS servers?

Hi,

I will do a new Enhance installation and the servers that I use for the Control Panel and DNS servers all have IPv4 and IPv6. Of course, I will use the IPv4. My question is if I should also use and enable IPv6 on all these servers?

I know IPv6 can bring advantages in terms of connectvity... but it can also cause issues when issues on IPv6 stack.

Note: Many of my web, app and email servers do not have IPv6, so on them I will use only IPv4.

Pretty sure everything in enhance communicates via v4, so I don't even bother messing with v6. I don't want to add anymore complexity to the system than necessary lol

Yes, same idea here. Ipv6 sounds great but it will add more complexity and increase probability of Enhance bugs.

Having sad that, not to use IPv6:

Step 1- Just not setup and IPv6 settings on Enhance and also no IPv6 DNS records
Step 2- I can also manual disable IPv6 on the servers. Just need to run some SSH commands.

Does anyone thinks step 2 is needed? Thanks

Nice! That way IPv6 remains setup/running on the server if needed in the future.

Apart from Enhance only using IPv4 (and I get why they do), using IPv6 or IPv4 for sites is a non issue.. ie it's simple.. BUT you need a AAAA record to use IPv6 of course. If you are using Enhance for your DNS, this is automatically added.

I don't consider IPv6 as adding any complexity.. but I do understand why some may feel that way. IPv6 is great, sadly "we" have all be slow to collectively embrace it.. and as a result IPv4 is still with us for a long time longer..

xyzulu i was using it 10 years ago, I stopped because it felt like a waste of time managing it for years and nobody cared and mass adoption never happened lol. At least I tried!

Yeah, I know.. me too.. only in the last few years have I started to actually like IPv6 and now use it over IPv4 anytime I can.
