When import from Plesk/cPanel is traffic direct to Web server?

Hi,

Suppose I have 1 Enhance Cluster with 2 servers:

Server 1: Control Panel
Server 2: Web/DB

When doing a website import from external Plesk or cPanel server, does the traffic/data goes directly form the external server to the Web/DB server, or it passes in the middle on the Control Panel server?

a) External Plesk/cPanel > Enhance Web/DB
or
b) External Plesk/cPanel > Enhance Control Panel > Enhance Web/DB

If option a) perfect! If option b) I suppose I have to take in attention Enhance CP server disk space and bandwidth usage in case of large imports/migrations. Thanks

Hi. It's mostly b) however in some cases it's not necessary to unpack the entire backup before sending it on to the designated app/db server for the website. You do need to have enough disk space on the control panel server to unpack the archive.

This may change in the future.

Thanks for the information! I think the way it is now makes sense and is the proper way.

I’m thinking in a case of a client that bought an Enhance hosting account with 10GB space and has to import a 8GB website from cPanel/Plesk, the import tool will use 8GB of the Control Panel server space and not space on the Web server client account. Because if the import do not pass by the control panel server, the 10GB of the client account would not be enough to store both the import backup and the extracted data (+/- 16GB)

This is correct, yes?

If yes, only thing to take attention is to have a Control Panel server with enough space for large import/migrations, enough bandwidth and the network speed is fast.

Adam Yes, I had to increase disk space on my control server, since I had not planned for it to run through the control server. It is fine that it does, but it did catch me off-guard last week while I was importing Plesk sites.

It was actually through watching disk space live, that I was alerted. No doubt those who had done cPanel imports were already aware of this.

Ended, well, however. And thanks again Adam for finding that mail import bug on the Plesk side. You took care of that super fast, and I see the fix is in the 10.3.

Does anyone knows if in the upcoming version 12, will this change? I need to plan a new Enhance cluster and want to know if I will need to have extra space in the CP server, reserved for client migrations.
