I don't have anything meaningful to contribute. Just that vi is still alive and kicking, and nobody uses EMACS, so those of us who refused to switch back in the day won!

When it comes to my.cnf tuning it tends to be pretty straightforward, but there are probably less than a dozen variables that are regularly edited, and any misspellings when doing so (which I'm prone to) result in a database that refuses to start until the change is corrected or rolled back.
A simple tool to modify common mysql variables that prevented those sorts of errors would be welcome from my opinion.
