Tips for WordPress performance

Hi,

I tested the WordPress performance with these two tools:

Are there perhaps any tips and tricks to achieve even better values here?

I'm sure there's something that can be done with the database values.

I would be delighted if we could exchange ideas here and create a small collection of WP performance tips.

DracoBlue NOOO please.. you have no idea of the server this person is using. Please don't make sweeping (and dangerous) recommendations like this.

I wrote above that he should adjust these settings to his server. The PLESK panel changes these values in its tool called "performance booster".

But we use Enhance here? There is a reason we are not using plesk right?

These are settings-values for the database, whether it's Plesk panel or Enhance, it doesn't matter.

I think the issue here is not understanding the values and not realizing you can lose data and ACID compliance with those values.

It works until it doesn't, then you possibly lose a few seconds of transactions or possibly corrupt the database, and it's not ACID compliant.

This is so wrong:

innodb_buffer_pool_size=256M
innodb_buffer_pool_size=128M

(you're setting the same value differently in the same configuration file!!)
.. among other things.. I don't think it's good to give out suggestions when you/we know zero about the server this user is trying to get help with.

xyzulu It depends. I run a forum based on the commercial WoltLab engine, which requires innodb_buffer_pool_size above 128MB. If the value is 128MB or lower, an error will appear prompting to increase this value. You're right, every server needs to be optimized according to the machine's components.

Oldschool These values are suggested by the 'Performance Booster' tool developed by Plesk. It seems to me that they tested it thoroughly before releasing it for use. I'll add that these proposed values cannot be changed manually; they are calculated based on the server where the panel is installed.

Of course.. for example, my innodb_buffer_pool_size is many Gb's (depends on the server), but you are suggestion this user set this value twice in the one configuration file... and less than the current Enhance defaults as well.

xyzulu Indeed, I noticed my mistake; I provided that value twice as high. The default value for the 'Enhance Panel' is indeed 128MB.

Regardless of what plesk recommends, it's not ACID compliant and it risks a few seconds of potential data loss.

mysql/mariadb settings are not a 'one size fits all'. Please take some time to understand what these settings to before suggestion anything specific to other users. You're giving Enhance a bad name potentially and de-valuing the level of user to user support that is provided on this community.

I provided the values that worked in my case, improving the database performance. I also mentioned earlier that the author of this topic must set the values according to their server. So, I don't understand your insinuations. The results speak for themselves.

DracoBlue I don't think 128Mb is the default on Enhance.

xyzulu The initial value for MariaDB in the Enhance panel was set to 128MB, but due to the recent updates, it has been changed to 512MB.

It's a WordPress installation with database on the CloudServer CPX11 from Hetzner.

2 AMD vCPU
2 GB RAM
40 GB NVMe SSD

However, I have never dealt with database optimization before.

What settings would you recommend for the server?
