Rezising control panel VPS

Hi everyone,

the CP server for my estate is just about to reach 80% disk usage so it's time to upgrade.

It's a Linode shared CPU instance. Linode provide a couple of options:

Warm or cold resize
Auto resize disk

I've performed a snapshot while the instance is running. Does it make any difference to perform the snapshot while the instance it powered down?

I'm a little nervous to trigger this, even with a snapshot, knowing we don't yet have a way to replicate the CP if something catastrophic happens.

I'd appreciate any advice!

Hi @ordinary,

We have resized the control panel VPS with Hetzner and it went very smoothly. Make sure to just resize the partition via command line after your upgrade.
If you aren't sure about the snapshot while running the machine, you can power it off and then take a snapshot to be sure.

I have resized the control panel VPS in our XCP-ng cluster 3 times, all without any issues. In our case, we take a full Delta Backup and then snapshot prior to resize operation. We started out too small, resized, then when the Plesk importer became available, realized we needed a LOT more space... LOL.

In any case, just make sure to snapshot or image the VM prior to resize. That way if you make a mistake, you can simply roll back.
