Staging Site Pushing to Live Dilemma

Using the STAGING site feature on a brand new site (pre launch) works fine.
Build up the whole site, hit push live, give it the domain it needs.

My issue has been more so on the ... if i clone an existing site to a staging domain, if i want to push live i have to DELETE the website?
This scares me because then wouldn't that mean all the custom DNS records, all the EMAILS etc. all get wiped?

Is this a big oversight? or am i missing HOW this works?

This is how it currently works however we've completely rewritten it for version 10.6.0 which releases in a few days. Push live now has the option to create a new website or overwrite an existing one. In both cases it will keep the original staging website in place for further development.
