Something I have suggested in a ticket but would like to see if there is enough traction to get a FR pushed forward is resetting MX entries on a cPanel restore.

In our case, we have specific MX set for the cPanel accounts but on restoring and for domains set to "local", we need these records set to the default MX on import.

Currently, it keeps the old ones which would then break email entirely.

If a "reset MX" option can be specified for restores, that would be extremely useful for those using external MX which want to move to default inbounds provided by Enhance with little customer impact.

Yeah if the email role on Enhance is different then the application role the MX record needs to be adjusted to mail.[domain].

You can do this on the cPanel command line before running the backup with:

        grep DNS /var/cpanel/users/$1 | grep -v XDNS | cut -d "=" -f 2 | while read domain ; do
                test ! -f /var/named/$domain.db && continue
                uapi --user=$1 Email change_mx domain="$domain" exchanger="mail.$domain" oldexchanger="$domain" priority="0"
        done

This is part of a migration script I've written to clean things up prior to the cPanel backup, and $1 is the cPanel account username passed to it as a parameter.

Thanks. This seems to only expect one MX was set before...

Have you considered removing the username variable and having it run for all accounts for a full server to server migration?

Maybe once the full server migration feature is introduced. For now migration from cPanel is at the client's request so we manually do one at a time. Wish I could ditch cPanel entirely, but not just yet.

The option to update MX records is optional in my migration script too, and I review the MX records first before to ensure everything is routed locally. This API command fouls up MX records that are external.
