Monitoring Solutions: Netdata, NewRelic, or Suggestions?

Hello everyone,

I'm curious to know which monitoring solution you use. I've noticed some people using Netdata. Is it good? Does anyone use NewRelic?

I tried using Linode Longview, but unfortunately, the NGINX and MySQL integrations don't seem to work with Enhance. Similarly, NGINX Amplify doesn't function with Enhance.

I would appreciate any recommendations you might have.

I am using HetrixTools (aff link / non-aff link) and I install their user agent on the server which can provide those stats for my server.

Zabibix, Nagios or Muin as opensource alternatives.

Netdata, like Newrelic lets you really drill down and see what's going on, but its only needed when facing serious issues that need deep inspection.

ivansalloum Sadly no it was bit out of my price bracket when I could of really used it. Ended up installing Xdebug for PHP so I could analyse a memory stack.

Rich I need a monitoring tool that can handle NGINX and MySQL. I tried using Longview with Enhance, but it doesn't seem possible. Longview can track NGINX workers, requests, system resources, and MySQL queries.

ivansalloum There is Releem as well for mysql. I've not used it.

I think I would look at using Netdata as a single instance, connect to the server and review. I remember about 6 years ago, I'd use an SSH tunnel and then pipe the ports over so I could pick it up locally and yet keep it hidden from the internet by port blocking.

Can you share a link to Longview, I can't easily find it. Thank you. Likewise, best of luck with your monitoring system 🙂

NewRelic is very good.
It got me out of a pickle not too long ago.

I had a problematic client on one of our servers, and random spikes in CPU from just one god damn site. It was killing me. It took me so long to diagnose that the problem was actually "YITH WooCommerce Product Filters".
(8 Core 16 threads 32GB RAM maxed out on a dedicated server from ONE SINGLE SITE with medium traffic)

Rich Longview is powered by Linode (Akamai). You can find it inside their dashboard.

I managed with @Adam to make it work with NGINX. I‘m trying now to make it work with MySQL.

Releem is great but I don’t think it would work with Enhance due to Enhance dockerized nature.

ivansalloum Releem does work with Enhance, @AdamM spoke with the founder and got a working solution. I didn't get a quick attempt working so details might of changed.

Thanks for confirming Linode I saw that and bypassed it thinking it was a separate integration, and Akamai, I didn't know Linode was by them. I know someone at Akamai I'll be sure to chat to him when I next see him. 🙂

Rich Yeah, Akamai bought Linode a while ago. Longview is simple and great but I'm working on making it function with Enhance to collect MySQL (or MariaDB) metrics.

+1 for hetrix, this is a great tool, very easy to setup we do all out server monitoring and ip blacklisting monitoring with hetrix.

+1 for hetrix (basic monitoring & uptime page for customers)

+1 for netdata (free/affordable with a lot of detail and plays nice with docker & cgroups. Shows resource usage per site

Netdata also sends useful alerts out of the box. For example if the disk is rapidly filling up, it will send warning email "at this rate out of disk space will happen in x time." They now have an app that is the ugliest UX but sends notifications to your phone.

Longview is okay if you're on linode for basic resource usage monitoring but its not realtime (even if they say it is)
