Exclude directories from backups

I just found out my backups have been failing because of disk space issues. However, most of the disk space is being used by CMS temp files and could safely be excluded. Is it possible to exclude specific directories from being backed up?

I want also to have option to exclude specific type of files, like .ZIP.

As an update to my original request, I also think it would be nice to be able to disable backups on accounts, as well enable database and file backups separately. I'm sure this has already been requested, but there are quite a few accounts that I don't need backed up at all, and some that I only need MySQL backups but not file backups.

+1 for this for sure. A must have. It will save us a ton on backup storage costs. We need to exclude cache folders and zipped / tarred files.

Is there a way to merge feature requests ? There is like +3 features about backups, and its seems all of them has the same request, exclude files & custom backup retention per website/package.

This way we can all add our feedback on one place, I know people should search before adding a request, but you know... 😢 I myself did this mistake once.

Why? What caused the server to stop? How was this related to backups?

(If it’s S3 backups you are referring to then I can see a situation where a server could have hit its disk space. Still, why not use Enhance backups if this was the issue?)

I agree, I have... It's very big trouble if you have big websites... also if you use some cache plugin that generates 10k+ files daily, and it tries to sync/backup all of this cache garbage

xyzulu Maybe server can stops if here is no enough resourser to process a lot of small files as example - I have some websites with 50-90k + articles and I need to disable server caching only because it takes a lot of time for backups with cached files, or some another websites that use some custom plugins with a lot of temp files that updates every day too and rsyk make update all of them every day and it's very long process... I didnt have a problem with "server stop" maybe because I have powerful servers and small amount of websites, but I had spikes first times, and I needed to restrict the option with Maximum concurrent backups to 1-2 and only then it start works somehow. + you cant use cheap storage VPS because they provide low performance 2 vCPU that not enough to process that and when synk is going the bkp server always owerloaded... like 30+ min 100% cpu usage only to make a backup for one website. So the problem really exists and can be easily fixed via exclusions.

If someone can help with settings and can suggest how to exclude some folders via a custom way, let me know, please.

Is there any update for this feature?

I can see listed it at the bottom of the Roadmap, but I was wondering if it's close to being implemented in the next updates.

SolidNetwork ITs been 2 years, they did some implementation to exclude websites from backup, and they did it in the most unusable way possible 🙂

I dont believe we will see anything like this feature applied any time soon
