Need advice on how mail handling is configured

Hi there,
So, I’ve deployed Enhance, and it’s great. A big improvement over CyberPanel, which I stuck with way too long simply because I didn’t want to deal with manually transferring everything over to a new system and server. And I didn’t know Enhance existed, and none of the other free or low cost alternatives to Cyber were doing it for me. Anyway ... I spent the better part of the last 24 hours on migration, and it’s now done. 🥳 🎉 👯

I’ve gone through the documentation related to Mail. But there’s some things that aren’t clear to me. So I have some questions I’d appreciate input on.

Currently the server has the following “websites” (subdomains) for internal functions:

cp.SERVERDOMAIN.TLD [SHN]
hosting.SERVERDOMAIN.TLD [CTL]
onlinemail.SERVERDOMAIN.TLD [WML]
phpmyadmin.hosting.SERVERDOMAIN.TLD [PMA]

Questions:

I would like to change onlinemail. to webmail.. The reason I used onlinemail initially was because I already had an A record for webmail pointing to old server, and didn’t want to change that before the new server was set up, etc. So I put onlinemail in temporarily during the deployment process.

Q1: Is changing this as simple as deleting domain associated with the SHN website, and then adding in new domain?

During deployment it wasn’t clear to me what the difference was between SHN and CTL, and the function their respective subdomains would play.
I am now aware that CTL (hosting. in my case), is what I access the Enhance control panel though. I’m still not entirely sure what the full scope of the SHN server/subdomain is.

Q2: What is the scope of CTL’s function? (in my case, cp.SERVERDOMAIN.TLD)

Although, what I can see is that when I add email accounts to websites, it’s telling me to use cp.SERVERDOMAIN.TLD for the mail server addresses. That’s not what I was expecting or wanting.

Q3: How can I configuring things so that mail.WEBSITEDOMAIN.TLD is used for a website’s mail server addresses?
Q4: How can I configure things so that webmail.WEBSITEDOMAIN.TLD is used for a website’s RoundCube access?

Alright ... Digging into things further, I’ve figured out some answers ...

A1: Post-install, this can be changed on the Settings > Platform page.

Editing this setting will set up the the new subdomain as the Primary domain for the WML, and the old subdomain as an Alias. If the Alias is not required, it can be deleted.

A4: I’ve now found that adding a DNS record for webmail to the server’s IP will result in webmail.SERVERDOMAIN.TLD resolving to the Roundcube system. Also, mail.SERVERDOMAIN.TLD will also resolve to the RoundCube system.

A3: Adding an A record for mail.WEBSITEDOMAIN.TLD will result in this subdomain resolving to RoundCube.
Although there’s no SSL certificate for that subdomain, so it will generate an insecure SSL warning. webmail.WEBSITEDOMAIN.TLD doesn’t direct to RoundCube.

The SSL for mail. can be issued via the primary domain. Resolves SSL warning.
