Hello
After the latest updates some clients with the older software, Windows 7 / Outlook 2016 has stopped working. Incompatible security protocols. Can someone advice any simple way to fix it on the client side?
Thanks!
Can you explain more? What isn't working? What "latest update"? Related to email? Control panel login? Website SSL certificate?
Clients complains that they can't use email from their Outlook applications, Outlook reports something that security protocol is unsupported by the server.
Are they using TLS to connect? Perhaps you could try SSL.. but to be honest, anyone running Windows 7 doesn't care about security anyway.. sorry to be so blunt.
100% what @xyzulu said. TLS 1.2 or above is required and the minimum industry standard. Enabling older legacy versions (TLS 1.0/1.1) means the servers are no longer PCI DSS complaint and put your after customers at risk of failing audits.
Windows 7 and outlook 2016 DOES support if they actually update there stuff however they should stop using outdated junk which no longer receive security updates to connect to the internet. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/update-to-enable-tls-1-1-and-tls-1-2-as-default-secure-protocols-in-winhttp-in-windows-c4bd73d2-31d7-761e-0178-11268bb10392
An alternative is they put there site behind Cloudflare. Do not budge an inch or try to come up with a fix for this on your end.
Can someone advice any simple way to fix it on the client side?
I hear upgrading to an OS and software made in the last 10 years solves this. Its pretty standard for companies to not support customers having issues on officially retired software unless that's your niche. They can always use the webmail.
