We are planning to add support for alternative MySQL servers, MariaDB is on the roadmap for April and we can potentially add Percona support too.

However, anecdotally, the performance isn't much different compared to MySQL 8.0.

Would just + 1.

As MariaDB is on a increased route of diverging from MySQL, there may be times where software expects a feature that isn't in MySQL. Essentially, that appears to be the "gold" standard.

Would be nice to have a "compatible" alternative to MySQL which MariaDB seems to becoming less of each release.
