Migration Tools

I think a large number of us are looking to move from other panels to enhance, we're all going to need to be moving customers emails, files, databases. As someone moving from one of the more legacy and less popular panels, I don't expect there will be any panel specific tool provided that will fit my needs.

Rather than having panel specific tools, I'd be interested in seeing provided or collaboration on other generic protocol migration tools.

imapsync for example we provide our customers with a hosted version locked to our servers so they can move messages between mailboxes.

Is there a mysql to mysql migration tool enhance could integrate into the cp or that we could collaborate on the API calls to automate?

Is there an ftp to ftp migration tool enahnce could integrate into the cp or that we could collaborate on the API calls to automate?

Anything that makes moving customers to enhance easier, is better for enhance and better for all of us.

imapsync is a great suggestion. Your idea is to allow customers to enter the credentials of their existing mailbox and have imapsync copy over the messages?

For MySQL to MySQL we could potentially make a frontend to mysqldump which takes the existing database credentials, dumps the database and imports it to the customer's Enhance account.

FTP to FTP I'm sure there are open source utilities that could be integrated.

All of this will be considered for implementation. If other customers would also benefit from this, please feel free to "like" the original post.

imapsync would be really useful actually because migrating mail accounts can be a real pain. Not so bothered about the other mentioned tools, they might be nice, but moving that stuff manually is no big hassle, mail though...

Yes it would be ideal if the target could be pre-filled from enhance and the source entered by the customer, have it copy over the folders (structure is as important to some as contents) and the messages within them. It can take some time though so it'd need to spawn itself as a task with very long timeout.

True, I was thinking perhaps having 'Website > Advanced > Import' listing email/database/ftp transfer options so they're more exposed and clear to purpose, maybe the database part being SSO to $PMA/index.php?route=/server/import would be good enough there.

I quite liked the idea of a PHP script people upload to the losing host and entering a user enhance API key to automate the migrations but I figure they might run into memory/resource/timeout limits on the remote side.

Mailcheap.co is a great example for this. By far the best email migration system I used.

They provide 2 ways of e-mail migration:

1- Using imapsync. A polished and customized version, that also allows bulk migration. Access is done inside the control panel.
2- Auto-Migration: Self-service done by client. Allows migration without users resetting passwords. Public access.

I know for now version 12 is the priority. But when Enhance team as the time to look into this, you should really check Mailcheap.co system.

But about the script. You assume that the username and password of the source system and the target system are the same. However, this is probably not always the case. You should therefore include in your script and your config that there is a username and password for the source system and a different username and password for the target system.

Its basic email migration and there are many scripts you can find. Its not specific to Enhance its just syncing between two imap servers. Most of the tools and scripts you find on this forum aren't really Enhance specific either, just basic server admin.

If enhance made such a page it would increase support requests because the people who can't find the tools on their own won't be able to use them properly. The truth is if someone isn't a competent server admin they shouldn't be hosting whether its Enhance, Cpanel, whatever.

No need these things are simple diy stuff, Im sharing a tool below it might be helpful to everybody,

We used this tool before several times and its pretty good, now, i must say if you're not confident about using third party unknown tools then please do not use it, it worked for us without any issues it might not work for everyone.
