Apache - different PHP version per folder

Hi,

I have an old OpenCart site that requires ioncube for PHP 5.6. Sadly the site works slowly using it and with PHP 7.1 it is much faster but one specific feature is not working due to the incompatible ionCube version.
Is it possible to set PHP 7.1 for the entire site except the admin folder? In cPanel this is possible but I couldn't find information here.
Or alternatively, is it possible to use ionCube 5.6 for PHP 7.0/1. I tried to load it in the php.ini but it still doesn't work as the custom php.ini is not being used. I have set SetENV PHPRC in the .htaccess file still not taking it according to phpinfo().

Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you!

But also, why would you? Those versions of php are defunct/insecure, and you want to run a shop on it? That's beyond negligent as a shop owner.

It's not possible to run multiple versions of PHP under a single website since each website only has one php-fpm/lsphp process pool.

The only way you could potentially do it is to copy all of the code to a separate website with a subdomain of the main site as its domain. Place it on the same server and duplicate the code base. Use the same database details. You will then be able to use the admin on the subdomain whilst retaining the latest version of PHP for the frontend website. If you're uploading media files through the admin panel you might have to rsync those to the live site.

I assume this is your client. Offer them upgrade paths to something better than OpenCart or at least up to date version. If they refuse they are usually either a cheapskate or don't have the money so you won't usually lose much by dropping them.

Spend no time getting something insecure to work. Running PHP 5.6 simply isn't secure even if its in ionCube. Don't expose yourself to the security liability. If they don't like it they can go to some garbage host that still offers 5.6

Even if they are isolated from other clients it will still impact your service when a PHP 5.6 vuln lets a bot launch attacks from your server IP...
