We do get a lot of requests for integration of Installatron or Softaculous. Any integration we do will be optional rather than mandatory. Our primary focus is on our own auto installers which are built in to Enhance.

Adam It would be 1000x better if we keep the ecosystem simple without introducing external, recently exploited, backwards-dated shitshows of installers to what is a currently well executed, clean and secure ecosystem

Would love to see the WordPress plugin auto-installer evolve before we got other scripts, lots of potential with this if we had our manager to add/remove plugins.

Would rather that than 400+ scripts which only 2 are every used by end users.

Ned I second your ideas Ned. Enhance auto intaller has so much of potential, and I'd love to see these features added one day:

Ability to:

Install plugins (upload or from WP repo) - We can already remove them.
Make boilerplates or canvases where we can set up different types of installs for different situations and make them available to customers (for example, a developer boilerplate: WordPress + Woo + Fluentforms + safesvg + CPT UI + ACF + wpgridbuilder).
The ability to deactivate multiple plugins from the manager at the same time.
Daily/Weekly auto-updates

This is something that customers value. Difficult to compete in the current crowded web hosting industry were we cannot offer a full fledged auto installer (yes we have, only two apps) while our competitors can.

shahed I understand the point of view, but I think we are mixing perceived value with real value.

In practice, the vast majority of customers only use WordPress. The rest of the catalog mainly serves to inflate numbers, but is rarely used consistently. On top of that, many of these installers include outdated or poorly maintained applications, which significantly increases the attack surface and security issues — and those ultimately fall back on the hosting provider.

In my opinion, it makes more sense to invest in a well-built native installer, focused on what is actually used, with automation, templates, and security best practices from the start. That brings far more value to the customer than offering dozens or hundreds of applications that, in reality, won’t be used.

Competing on the number of applications is easy. Competing on quality, security, and reliability is the real differentiator.

i'd agree with @webdig.

if you look through the entire list of softaculous apps, there's not really that many that you're likely to see used.

i'd reckon around 26 of them..
wordpress, joomla, phpbb, mybb, laravel, drupal, typo3, oscommerce, prestashop, opencart, magento, bbpress, codeigniter, bootstrap, cakephp, symfony, moodle, owncloud, nextcloud, suitecrm, sugarcrm, roundcube, rainloop, osticket, dokuwiki, phpmyadmin

4 of which they wouldn't need softaculous for anyway, since wordpress and joomla can already be installed via the panel, and roundcube and phpmyadmin are already available to customers (unless they want completely private instances)
even then, probably more than 95% of installs would be for wordpress.
of the others listed, some shouldn't even be considered for a shared hosting server...
and for a dedicated server, many of the others, it's just as easy, if not more so, to just install them using a single line docker command.
