AdamM Hi Courtesy of a certain company, I had the opportunity today to test a server with 9950X ryzen. AMD® Ryzen 9950X, 192GB ECC DDR5, 2 x 1.92TB Ent NVME Hardware RAID 1 It appears to be the new king of single core performance for PHP and WordPress. 8000+ queries per second!!!
gmakhs I have 8 of them, they do well, but the AMD EPYC 4584PX is much better, which i will be buying in Jannuary
AdamM gmakhs To my knowledge, the 4584PX will achieve a worse result. "is much better" it also depends on what you have in mind
gmakhs AdamM why you believe that ? EPYC 4584PX is faster and newer cpu, i will benchmark once i get my hands on the servers but the stats are higher
AdamM gmakhs I think you're wrong... 9950x Release Date: Aug 15th, 2024 4584PX Release Date: May 21st, 2024 So how is it newer even based on release date? Many benchmarks that I see do not indicate any faster performance for PHP on your CPU. You can do a benchmark in January but I am 99% sure the result will be worse.
DracoBlue I have an AMD EPYC™ 9634 processor, and it’s great, but when I look at the 9950X, it has definitely higher single-core clock speed. However, in the ranking, the 9950X is in 59th place, while the 9634 is in 10th place.
wav3front AdamM There are many vendors that already offer the 9950x. Maybe in the USA? can't find anyone in Europe, yet.
Zoinkies It's good, but not peak! 14900k @ 6.1 Ghz with x2 Samsung 990 PRO 1 TB in RAID 0. 128 GB of DDR5 6000Mhz with EK full water-cooling. Yes, it's a unit shipped to a colo we have cage space. If you want more specifications let me know, happy to answer!
Zoinkies Zoinkies Also for reference this is our top-tier server, it has around 150 websites currently running on it when I ran those numbers. I share the same server as my customers, seems hypocritical to reserve the best infra for myself alone!
AdamM Zoinkies ooo your score is amazing! But as far as I know at max load 14900K CPU throttling is 3.2 Ghz to all cores.
Zoinkies AdamM with some BIOS tweaking and setup you can boost to 6.1 GHz in bursts which works really well for a fairly busy server with suitable limits. You 100% need a proper watercooled loop to deal with thermals, and good airflow, for sure the heat is insane. I’ve seen some people oc them to 6.6+Ghz but 6.1 is really stable for sure under load.
AdamM Zoinkies I understand but you can only do such things on your own equipment, bare metal suppliers are unlikely to allow it 😃
