Restore failed and all websites are 404 now within this package

Hello
I have restored a whole Website (approx. 15 GB) - but the backup failed in the middle of nowhere, without any meanful message, and now this and all other domains on the website seems to be down, I get a 404 an all domains. The old files are still there, but regardsless what, I always get a 404.
It seems the restore break something, I run Litespeed OLS

Any ideas what logfiles I can take a look at?

Make sure the public_html directory is in the :99 group. Also, try toggling HTTPS on and off, then restart OLS. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, I recommend opening a ticket with the Enhance team. Don’t forget to report back on how it goes.

Thanks for help, it was indeed an issue with files/directories, owned by root. Adam solved this issue after logged in the server. After he fixed it, I was able to restore the 15 GB Backup successfully.

You’re welcome, Yes, it’s a very common issue. Every Enhance admin should make it a habit to always su into the user container before making changes to avoid these kinds of problems.

Use the following command to search for problematic files and folders:

find /var/www/example/public_html -user root -ls

Change the ownership of any files or folders found to the account owner, then try the restore again.

A cPFence helper function to handle this automatically for the entire server will be available next version.

cPFence thanks for this… didn’t find any - all folders are www-data owner etc - is this correct like Apache normally?

I definitely have a permissions issue that’s occurred (no idea why, everything was working swimmingly).

Tried to migrate websites to another server to isolate this one and sync within the move tool failed for permissions also.

public_html should be in group 99, owned by the account owner, and have 750 permissions.

You can check this with:

ls -ld /var/www/website_id/public_html

If everything looks correct and you’re still getting a 404, I recommend opening a ticket with Enhance to investigate further.

cPFence Thanks for this - I got the websites going again following the above. But there are stil major permissions issues happening as I tried moving websites off this server to another and it fails with rsync permissions issues. Ticket open with enhance - appreciate your input as always!

Update, it was permissions and also ssh issues. I had an "allowedusers" entry in ssh config on all servers - messed with things related to migration (as it uses the user ssh context of the website). Also the 404 issues were permissions, created a new account and website and replicated permissions back to what they should be.

A script for this (As others have commented), would be super helpful in future!
