Easily Find the Best Hetzner Server with This Handy Tool

Hi everyone,

I recently came across an amazing tool on Reddit that I wanted to share with you. It’s called Hetzner Value Auctions, and it makes finding the best value server in the Hetzner Auction incredibly easy.

Why is this tool so helpful?
• It automatically compares server performance per EUR/USD using real CPU benchmarks.
• No need to switch between dozens of tabs to check CPU benchmarks!
• It simplifies the process of choosing a dedicated server and makes everything much clearer.

I found it extremely useful, especially when quickly selecting a server for things like WordPress hosting, WooCommerce shops, or other applications.

Note: I am not the creator of this tool. I found it on Reddit and thought it was super handy, so I wanted to share it with the community. I think many of you will find it helpful as well. 😊

babylon nice one but all servers in the auction are not good to be used as web, email servers as all of them are 1: old servers, 2: their IP addresses are blacklisted… 3: getting a dedicated server on rent, it’s still not yours means they can switched off at anytime due to many reasons…

Kosta i have to contradict you, on some points. I use an auction rented server, with a minor upgrade, from normal ram to ECC ones. And i have no problem regarding IP being blacklisted, and about owning servers, i am curious how many people from this community have their own, not rented servers.

superhostingvip I have as well currently auction dedi, but I am going to get my own servers and I be the only one who can access them physically. This is very import to me and the services I am looking to offer. Security, reliability

I'll second that, I too have a auction server with clean IP which is handling my email and web traffic. It might be an older xenon but it's more than capable still and for the price its exceptional value for money.

4GHz boost, 64GB ECC DDR4, dual nvme (raid1) and costs very little. I have IPMI access too it, and even tweaked the bios and performance profile. Backups are held on a difference DC and company.

Depends at what scale your hosting business is at, some of us need to make ends meet with very little clients and can't afford a nice shinny Ryzen 🤷 I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss Hetzners auction servers, there is great value to be had if you look.

Rich about the costs. Well in long term none of us will make good profits by renting servers and services. Other thing is that not having your own IT doesn’t make your business looking good…

Kosta Exactly it's about what service you're going to or do offer... There's a big range in needs and requirements. Good luck with your endeavour though 🙂

Kosta That's your opinion, not a fact. The choice between renting and owning is long standing. Sure if you're going ISO27001 with private cages and racks, then sure, else if your small and need to be agile then colo isn't the way to go.

Different strokes for different folks, if I had 1000 clients then maybe I'd consider building out my own infrastructure. I don't, so work within my means and what I can afford. Is my service any less reliable? Nope!

Kosta This is on entirely different league to simple WordPress hosting... don't even try and compare on-prem needs of enterprise to small business hosting. *SMH

Kosta Plenty of dedicated servers and even some VPS providers satisfy all data protection laws in the USA. Can't speak for the insanity that is the data "protection" laws in Europe.

You are correct that renting space in a datacenter with your own hardware is less likely to be randomly suspended than renting a dedicated server. That said, not everyone operates at the scale that makes this affordable. It doesn't automatically make them low quality.

A provider that rents quality VPS's/dedis + good disaster recovery and redundancy is more resilient than a provider that is limited to a single datacenter with no redundancy (ie many lowendtalk providers)...

JohnB I've rented HIPPA compliment Dedi's in the USA before. I've always preferred to be agile over maximum profit making. Any DC / Upstream hosting company can suspend you, for whatever stupid reason. Plan your infrastructure right and you'll be resilient and reliable. VPS's have their place, but I don't like not having control of the actual sever... again it's what the requirements and budget dictate, not my wishes and wants.

You can buy your own hardware, leave spare parts with the DC you colo at and think you're resilient, but any DC can have its own disaster... if it's taken out, so's your rack(s) full of clients. How agile are you at that point? For each server I rent I can easily go rent 3 more anywhere in the world within a heart beat. I have at least a dozen hosting company accounts already setup and verified... global DNS propagation is my slowest problem and I can't do much about that.

JohnB I don’t have customers I am planing to start on 3 DCs/ quarter racks to get it going and later upgrade with new racks and new DCs. Yeah Europe seems bit more complicated with data laws…

Hetzner auction servers seem good for projects that don't need the best of reliability. The hardware you get is used but they don't specify how used up it is sadly. A lot of things can go wrong hardware wise.

Another thing you have to consider is that you need to almost constantly monitor that machine for any hardware failures. Hetzner won't fix anything until you point it out.

Personally I just go with a dedicated VPS mainly because I don't have to deal with those inconveniences.

Rich I will make it resilient, that’s way I am spending 1 year in research and development to be resilient to anything that comes… community here helps. I just need iso and nis2 to comply they will fine tune my resilience…

Kosta Good luck Kosta! It's an ambitious plan, but one that will pay off in the end. As they say if you aim for the tree tops, you might just get off the ground, aim for the stars and you'll at least get past the tree tops. 🙂
