Cloudns secondary

Hello everyone,

I'm not sure if I'm just looking for trouble, but here goes: I currently manage three servers with DNS services, and I use Cloudflare integration. For each new client, I have to configure the API for them on Cloudflare, and frankly, I'm not too fond of this process. 🙂

I also have a premium account with cloudns.net, which could allow me to use their structure as a backup by adding the domain as a secondary. Could I achieve this with enhance? Would adding the domain as a secondary on cloudns mean I'd rely less on my servers? Am I right to think this way?

I'd appreciate any opinions or help on this. Thanks!

Yes, thinking about it now as you've written, lol, it's something else to consider. I really don't have much affection for Cloudflare, especially when it comes to CDN cache traffic here in Brazil, where I notice greater latency. Since my clients are local, it makes more sense to disable the proxy, leaving just the DNS matters for availability. But your simple phrase really made me think, maybe it doesn’t even make sense to use CloudNS either.

You could operate your 3 enhance DNS servers then configure CloudNS as a redundant dns in a master/slave config so that you have some higher availability from cloudNS

No need to throw cloudlfare in there unless your using their other features such as proxying

enhost Oops, thanks, that was exactly what I was thinking. However, I will need to change something in the structure of Enhance, right? Since I will have to do the xfer-transfer to the CloudNS DNS, that's what I'm thinking about now. I'm wondering if the changes are significant and could break Enhance.

longbsants I think it may not require much changes, in theory you follow the instructions from https://www.cloudns.net/wiki/article/360/ to update powerDNS on one / all of the DNS servers, then you can update your DNS template in the panel settings to include the backup name servers from cloudNS

May need a bit of trial and error though, and you will have to auto add domains to cloudNS which you could do from the API
