We had an issue with a client where we had to backup, restore from an older backup to find he simply misremembered what it was like before and then put the recent copy back - Not a massive task but still enough time spent! If we could restore from an older backup into staging - This would allow us to see the old site as it was and show the client that the sky had indeed not fallen and no servers conspired against them 🙂
