Backups Storage Overuse Fix (retention cleanup issue)

I noticed today my backups have gone overboard on storage use, so I poked around a bit. It seems my backups retention setting was not being followed. I changed the toggle in Settings>Backup>Retention, changing to a longer date, then waiting a moment and changing it back... Immediately my backup server started purging the old snapshots that should have been purged before and overall usage is back to where I expected it (saved me 1/2 a TB in about 10 minutes lol).

If you have storage overuse issues, and you see in the folders for snapshots that some are older than should exist for your chosen retention period - then this might be just the fix you need... Turn it off and on again 😃

It seems to me that it works, but only for a moment. I suggest keeping an eye on it 🙂

DracoBlue I will check again in a few days to make sure old snapshots are purging themselves. If they're not, then probably got a problem somewhere.

twest I did this some time ago, and it actually deleted the copies according to the schedule, which was 3 days. But now I already have 6 days, and the number keeps increasing. I did what you described in this thread again, and it deleted them, bringing it back to 3 days, but tomorrow it will be 4 again. As far as I know, the team is working on a solution to this issue.

The same thing happened to me with duplicate backups, and at times that were not scheduled. Now, in addition, all the backups have disappeared from the Control Panel, although physically they are still in the Backup Server...
