Default templates for apache2.conf and vhosts

I would like to make custom changes to apache2.conf, but I am worried that future updates will override this. Where does the default apache2.conf come from? Or, is there a way to make changes that won't be overwritten?

Also, I would like to make custom changes to the default vhosts template, so that new accounts created will have these changes already. Where does the default vhost template come from, and can I edit it?

cPanel makes this super easy. They have default template files that you can change, and all future account vhosts files are build based on that. Hopefully there is something here that I can use in a similair fashion.

I have looked everywhere in the filesystem, and so far I have not been able to determine what builds the vhosts files or where the template comes from.

Does anyone have any insight to this?

You can turn on mod security and put any apache config in there. When I used apache that's what I did. I just left the tag at the top of the modsec config window to indicate modsec is OFF, then put my apache config. Theres lots of posts in the forum about it, lots of threads about vhosts too.

That is an okay solution for apache2.conf, but regarding your comment "lots of threads about vhosts too" ... yes, there are. Most of them are +1 +1 +1 me too, me too comments. Some of them go a bit further, like suggesting to run a script to go through every file and change the contents on a schedule. None of that is really an answer though.

I would be happy even if I could just find where the default vhosts data comes from and be able to edit it there in the terminal, even if it isn't in the panel ui.

Does anyone have any idea what process creates the vhosts files, and where that default/original data comes from?

This is not where the vhost .conf includes need to go, see the link above. But, I'll leave this thread to you now @Kosta since you are so confidently all over it.

Regardless of which location is correct (docs say /var/local/enhance/apache/vhost_includes/example.com.conf but the vhosts file literally has IncludeOptional /etc/apache2/vhost_includes/example.com.conf), this is still a hassle when you have global changes that you want on all of your websites. You have to manually (or script) every include file every time you add an account.

My original question about the template on how the actual vhost file is built would allow global changes to be set in 1 single place and every account would follow that template as it is built. That's what I'm really looking for.
