Allow a domains DNS to be disabled

When a client wants to manage their DNS records elsewhere it would be useful if we could disable the DNS service specifically for that domain.

This isn't something any panel I know offers. While DNS may be managed remotely, just the way web servers work still requires some DNS records to be present on the web server hosting the website.

I do get the direction you are headed.. perhaps the suggestion could be to disable customer/user access to the DNS records if the DNS is managed elsewhere?

xyzulu Plesk allows this - the DNS service can be removed from a subscription if its not authoritative. A website requires DNS resolution to work but not the actual service.

I strongly support this feature. When a domain’s DNS is managed elsewhere, having the option to disable DNS in Enhance makes it obvious that the authoritative DNS is external, which reduces mistakes, avoids conflicting record changes, and saves time for both support and customers.

A workaround for this would be to create an identical package with the DNS editor disabled, then move the customer to that package.

Would a message at the top of the DNS page for a domain advising something like "the domain is using 3rd party nameservers so any changes here would not take effect. if you want to use this do that" or similar? work? that way would make it possible to edit the dns if for example you planned to use the DNS at a later date or had just not pointed them yet?

Ideally there would be a toggle with clear wording that, when turned off, simply hides or greys out the DNS records section. If it could also disable the zone at the nameservers, that would keep things nice and clean.
