Migrating to server/sites to Nginx

Hello,

I have a small, two node Enhance cluster, one running Apache and one running Nginx (experimenting). Yesterday I built a staging site for a customer and then deployed it to live. I didn't notice that the staging site was on the Apache server and the live site got deployed to the Nginx server.

When I checked in this morning I realised that pretty URLs weren't working on the live site on Nginx. Everything was fine if I went back to ?p=123 URLs, but /contact gave a 404 error.

I couldn't see any differences in the control panel settings for the broken live site vs some other sites which were working fine on Nginx.

Moving the site to the Apache server fixed it.

Does anyone know why this happens and how to fix it if it happens again in the future?

usually for something like that, changing and saving the permalinks setting in the WP backend then changing it back to what you want to use and saving again would resolve this.

also check you have something like this in the vhost conf:

try_files $uri $uri/ /index.php?$args;
index index.php index.html;

I tried changing and saving the permalinks and that didn't fix it.

where do i find the vhost settings? they don't seem to be in the panel?

In Enhance, go to Developer tools -> Nginx section. Look for Rewrites and add one with the following:
Source path: /
Destination path: index.php

That’s it.

@Adam, I think it would be much appreciated if this were auto-added for discovered WordPress sites when running Nginx.

My confusion was that I didn't see a line like this in any of the working nginx sites?

Do I understand from your comment that this is added by default when sites are built on a Ngnix server, but if they are cloned to one you have to add it manually?
