We use Enhance with the Cloudflare integration, and all DNS records of our domains are managed through Enhance. We then connected a Cloudflare R2 bucket to one of the domains as a custom domain (cdn.example.com) to serve media. Since then the DNS sync for that zone is broken. Every sync stops with an error on the R2 record, and before it fails it has already deleted other records from the zone.
What happened
- The zone
example.com is on Cloudflare and synced by Enhance. Everything worked.
- In the Cloudflare dashboard we added
cdn.example.com as a custom domain of an R2 bucket. Cloudflare created a record for it with the type shown as “R2”. It has no normal target value and can’t be copied or recreated by hand.
- We then added a new record in Enhance DNS for example.com.
- The record never showed up in Cloudflare, and some existing records in the zone were deleted. The sync removed records one by one until it reached the R2 record and then failed. Records after that point were not recreated.
The error
From journalctl -u orchd on the panel:
orchd::dns_sync: CloudFlare sync error: CloudFlare returned error code 1052, message: Unable to edit this record. It was generated by Cloudflare and can be modified in your R2 configuration
It repeats on every sync attempt, so no DNS change reaches the zone any more.
Questions
- Is there a way to make the Cloudflare integration ignore specific records or record types?
- Can the sync be changed to skip error 1052 and continue instead of aborting half way?
- What is the recommended way to use R2 with a custom domain on a domain managed by Enhance? Is a separate domain outside the sync the only option? (Using CNAME with the Development public R2 URL is not recommended for production)
