There's some issues around htaccess reloads being automatic. LSWS does, OLS doesn't... I think there's some work towards this for OLS.I am sure there are some others here who can articulate the current situation better.
Another is there's no ESI Support for OLS only LSWS/ADC. So unless you know you need it, it's an enterprise feature mostly lost on smaller sites is my understanding.
That said I've found that even the remote image compressions features still work under an OLS setup. Most of all the LSCache features work. LSWS has a bigger token allowance per site.
There might be some kind of small performance penalty, but I can't say for sure. I can still get client sites to load under 2 seconds with OLS+LSCache on enhance, usually closer to 1 and depending on the site etc... I can get it to under 1.
I run small estates with a limited number of sites within and I don't share any dev roles with any one else. Under heavy load of many, many clients like shared hosting provider. I'd say OLS wouldn't be very suitable as the number of sites grows. For me under a dozen that I manage has been ok.
