Cannot connect database and wordpress site

When I try I get this error:

This PHP version is not compatible with 'caching_sha2_password' authentication. We recommend you delete your database users with this authentication type or your website may go offline.

What does this mean? It is related to when I tried to change the PHP version from 8.1 to PHP version 5.6. What did I do wrong?

The website is qualitydecorating.co.nz and it's IP address is 168.235.72.117. I tested the site by putting this IP address and domain name into my /etc/hosts file but when I try and display the website it comes up with "Error connecting to database".

You just need to make a user with the mysql_native_password plugin, it's under the "advanced" dropdown when creating a MySQL user. The PHP 5.6 MySQL client cannot support caching_sha2_password which is the default in MySQL 8.0.
