10.0.0 has dropped!

10.0.0 is out! My first two questions before updating (probably this weekend) are:

This core update will replace the mysqlcd container (version 8.0.28) on each of your database servers with a new mySQL container running version 8.0.35.

There are unfortunately no details about replacing MySQL with MariaDB in the release notes or documentation that I found. Is this possible?

If no 'Global webmail domain' is given, the 'Webmail' button in a users account will now use mail.{customers_domain} to connect

One of my gripes is that the email client settings at the bottom of email mailboxes suggests using the email server hostname rather than mail.{customers_domain} which makes email clients prone to needing hostname changes if email service is moved from one server to another, whereas the mail DNS record follows the mail server IP and is far more seamlessly portable.

@Adam in a ticket has said this might be improved in a future update, so I don't expect a change yet but I'm curious nonetheless.

It's not possible to do an in-situ change from MySQL to MariaDB since MariaDB is a fork of an earlier version of MySQL than 8.0 which Enhance deploys by default and therefore the data structures are totally incompatible.

You will need to provision a new server and move your clients across. However the MySQL users cannot be moved since MariaDB also doesn't support caching_sha2_password. Therefore you need to delete the MySQL users from the website, move it to the new server then re-create them. There will be a knowledgebase article for this soon.

This is a planned feature but there is no ETA yet. We will display the server hostname if we detect that the client has updated their DNS and the server hostname if not.

@Adam so if we have a webmail service address created (webmail.paneldomain.com) but we'd like to have this button point to mail.clientdomain.com, we would need to delete said webmail service domain, is that right?

had a minor issue, but i myself was the the cause of it, i thought i updated all servers to 22.04 but our backup server was at 20.04 so that went wrong, Adam solved it yesterday for me.

Went smooth for me too. I did check all servers for the proper ubuntu 22.04 version to be safe (kyzoeadmin above made me nervous lol) and also used the instructions from https://enhance.com/docs/server-management/updating-ubuntu.html to ensure everything including appcd was up to date before applying.

The cPanel importer appears to have developed a new problem, but otherwise everything seems to work fine.

Just to share I've updated both of my estates to 10.0.0, I ensured I updated Appcd to 2.0.1 first on the nodes. If needed. No problems with DB, all sites worked fine. I kept MySQL->MySQL I'll look at MariaDB at a later stage. (When it's easier to switch).

I've not noticed any degradation in performance as of yet, but I'll be mindful of this. Thanks @AdamM

We are moving some websites to Enhance, since we were waiting for MariaDB (our entire customer base is on MariaDB, so didn't want to risk anything switching to MySQL).

Well, after so many confirmations and few bugs worked out, I felt good to try and went for the update. All went good, only about 20 seconds downtime from the database update portion.

One thing that's so annoying, is needing to SSH into every server and manually run package updates. It's such an annoyance - even on the small cluster I have now (2 hosting servers, 1 standby hosting server, 2 dns servers, 1 main control server, 1 backup server)... That's 7 servers to login to and run the package updates, bwuhhhhh... I need to find that Feature Request to be able to run updates from the control panel and up up UPVOTE that thing lol

twest I am going to look in to creating Ansible Tower, as it's a GUI web app for ansible. But like everything it's finding the time to do it.

Rich +1 on this. I recommend Ansible too, if you have more than a couple of servers then it's a must - although I tend to use Ansible even for 1 server as it ensures I can quickly configure the server if it loses state or I want to make a copy.

It doesn't need to be Ansible, there are also Puppet and Chef (CINC is the open source version) which are popular alternatives.

Ansible is so well used and has a great community around it that you will probably never need to write your own playbooks if you do enough Googling.
