Change Mysql to Mariadb

Hey guys,

I know we can’t switch from Mysql to Mariadb instantly, but I have a server in the cluster with the only “website” on it being the hostname. I can’t disable the database role because it has ‘websites’, I can’t transfer the website because it’s the hostname. Is the only option completely reinstalling the server?

Also, 1 server in the cluser is permanently offline, I can’t remove it because it has ‘websites’ (hostname only) and I can’t transfer the website either. Is this a bug?

Do you have phpMyAdmin and Roundcube websites? If so they count as websites and will be mapped to the database role. Delete those and you should then be able to uninstall the database role and install it again with MariaDB.

For the server which is permanently offline, mark it as "decommissioned" under the servers section. This will enable you to delete the hostname website and then delete the server.

Hi @"Adam" thanks for the reply. Your first solution worked for 2 servers in the cluster but not for the last one I need to update. Maybe something went wrong during upgrade to version 10 because it doesn’t show a mysql of mariadb logo on the database role page either (it shows green for online though)

The offline server, I marked it as decommissioned but still can not delete it. It keeps saying ‘it is not possible to delete a server which has websites hosted on it’ (only hostname website)

RemonEH forgot to mention I can’t delete the hostname website either on the decommissioned server

Check the 3rd server is running Ubuntu 22.04. If it was running 20.04, run:

apt update
apt upgrade -y
(reboot)
do-release-upgrade
(reboot again)

Then restart orchd on the control panel server

docker restart orchd

Then the upgrade should complete. If that's not it, please send a support ticket.

You should be able to delete a website from the server if it's decommissioned. Then you will be able to delete the server.

Tried updating appcd on server 3 but it fails, it’s at version 1.11 while the others are version 2. Any suggestions?

Okay updating if anyone runs in the same issues. I was able to update to appcd version 2 and then I was able to remove the hostname website after which it was possible to remove the database role.

When trying to enable it again with mariadb I get this though;

Failed to add 'Database' role to 'main':
MySQL data dir already exists, use upgrade procedure

For some reason I was also able to remove the decommissioned server after the appcd update on server 3, weird.
