IPv6 only support

I don't plan to deploy IPv6 only servers myself yet (that day will come eventually).. however, there are a few edge case where I would like to. Enhance already support IPv6 just fine for websites (and for ssh login etc), I don't see there being too much code work to support IPv6 at an "Enhance" level.. ie website transfers (ssh), backups, mysql and all other services.

Already now some VPS providers will be starting to charge for IPv4. ISP's already do for static IPv4 (well, many ISP's).

I don't see this on the roadmap yet..

I don't see how ipv6-only could be useful for a web server since so many "eyeball networks" still don't support ipv6. However I can see how it might be useful for a backup server where no end user connectivity is required. We do have an open feature request and there is no barrier to it, just a lot of internal code changes since orchd expects the primary IP of a server to always be ipv4.

Here how IPv6 only can be useful:

I want to provide dedicated databases instances...

Fore the example I can add low latency KVM virtual machine to Enhance cluster (2 cores, 4 GB RAM /4 cores 8GB RAM...) set a Database role and then move only one client databases there and let them push it to limit not worrying that they will break the experience for the other clients on cluster member which used shared DB

There is no problem to use it that way with IPv4 for single client... But if I want to add 20 or 50 such instances for 20 - 50 clients I got to use 20 -50 IPv4 IPs which become costly and a total waste of IPv4 for single client databases ...

Of course it can be done with internal networking but my guess is - it will be a lot more code for your team to rewrite to allow / create internal networking than to allow IPv6 only support - which is suppose will be licensing server change and some code to download trough ipv6

P.S. Also to add ARM support will future proof panel - these 80 cores Amerpe servers become cheaper and cheaper - they are not speedster for PHP but a viable solution for databases and my user case especially as they come with /64 IPv6
Ubuntu 24 seems very stable on them ..

I get it.. orchd could accept IPv6 or IPv4 addresses.. eventually. I just wanted to make sure this gets on the radar.

Then I would opt for a LAN connection (private network) between the clusters where I could serve a public network interface (ipv4/ipv6) and another network interface for cluster connection between servers within the same LAN (10.10.2.0/24), so I wouldn't need to use public ipv4, both for the database server and backup server...

Yes it will be ok too and to have private network and private IP only cluster members for databases and backup 🙂

It will be easier to push IPv6 only - and made progress - then get private networking along the line when they have time

I would love ipv6 support. And the use case? I don't want to waste my limited amount ipv4 just to connect server.

I want to leave to for clients / for special needs. But if I need to connect like 30 VPS, that's 30 IPs I just wasted just to connect servers. And nothing else. The IPs won't be seen by normal users.
