Question regarding nameserver setting with Cloudflare

I used to use cloudflare API with enhance only. But when I want to test staging, I need to add DNS role to run own nameservers.

I've got a question though. The domain that I used for setting nameservers (ns1.mydnsdomain.com) is hosted in Cloudflare. So when I set the ns1 record in Cloudflare, can I still use its proxy or should I turn off the orange cloud and get all my nameserver IPs exposed? Thank you for your help!

You will need to add the ns1 and ns2 (or more) A records in Cloudflare and make sure they are not proxied AND also register your name servers with your domain name registrar (often called glue records).

This domain is on Dynadot. Nameservers were registered in Dynadot system and A records in Cloudflare were created. But with proxy at first. I just removed the proxy for them.

xyzulu But actually the problem is, when checking NS records for the staging domain with https://dnschecker.org/, it showed all errors. That's also the reason I started this thread. Around a hour past after I've disabled the proxy, the problem is still there. I don't know if there's still other problems or it just needs more time to propagate.

Are you sure you registered the name servers according to these directions: https://www.dynadot.com/community/help/question/register-name-servers

xyzulu yes, 100% sure this is done correctly. I guess it’s just the propagation delay. Now I see more test locations in dnschecker showing correct NS records of the staging domain.

Actually just now I tested setting up a staging site and the domain already worked. Only Let’s Encrypt still shoes error due to staging domain’s NS records problem.

https://dns.squish.net is a great tool.. but it sounds like you are on the right track.. just be a little more patient.

@xyzulu Hey mate, the problem is solved. Just now I've added a website for the root staging domain, and the NS records as well as Let'sEncrypt are working for staging subdomains.

I guess it's still the same problem mentioned in this thread, @Adam would you please check this when you have time? Thank you!
