Multiple Home Partition [LOGGED]

Hello,

We can use /home, /home1, /home2 multiple mounted partitions in cPanel & some other control panel.

If we have multiple disks & mounted at different partitions, is it possible to use all of them in Enhance ?? I couldn't find it yet.

This isn't currently supported. Since Enhance has no per-server licence cost we assumed customers who had outgrown the size of their /var partition would just migrate some sites to a new server within their cluster to balance disk space usage.

If this is something a lot of customers would like, it is possible we could schedule some development time to allow it.

Adam Adam, I actually prefer how it is setup now. I realize that not all users of Enhance have the ability or infrastructure, but I would personally spin up a new server in the cluster to handle extra demand, rather than extend. I do think metrovps's idea has merit, but at what point is the vps going to be overloaded, and a new one spun up in any case.

I think only websites that have their DNS delegated to the enhance instance can be moved without any hassle (from the client's perspective).

At least in my case, some clients only have an A record pointing to the web server, so changing the IP address would have a big impact.

I believe this would be a nice option for those who can't move their clients without going through external DNS changes.

That's why I feel this is an important roadmap item:

Proxy on server migrations;
Automatically proxy website requests from the source server through to the destination server after a server migration, allowing the website to continue functioning if the DNS is not updated immediately.

+1 but for the purpose of being able to sell NVMe/SSD and HDD storage tiers on the same node and tie this feature into packages.

+1 from me. I Can run a server with 16 cores and 32 GB of memory - which gives me a lot of resources for individual accounts. However, I would rather have my vDevs smaller, so backup happens easier on a hypervisor level.

It's definitely possible. It will make admin slightly harder as you won't be able to assume a website path to be /var/www/{uuid} and it will also make server moves more tricky as the partition structure of the destination server may not match the source. Potentially this could be mitigated with symlinks.

Interested in what the use case for multiple home dirs is? Surely it's not down to expanding disk space, as you could just use LVM for adding extra space?

SharedGrid This generally comes down to VPS which has lower space with NVMe drives at the beginning and you figure out the server can handle a couple more websites/accounts easily, but you are short on disk space. We then need to attach a Block Storage to the server, and this time having multiple locations to host the files is beneficial.

PradeepC LVM should be used for this, in my opinion. I don't see any benefit in using multiple home dirs over LVM.

SharedGrid LVM isn't always an option with a VPS. For example not every VPS will be be provisioned with LVM.

I agree the "correct" way would be to use LVM and that's how I would do it in a dedicated enviroment but not have every VPS gives you this luxury even from reputable providers.

Also in theory if you had two mount points you could set which one to use at a package level. If you have an NVME raid and SSD raid in the same dedicated server you could sell two packages (NVME and SSD).

We still have the feature request open but it's not yet been scheduled for development. Since Enhance does not charge an additional licence fee per server, if you are running low on disk space it's easier just to add a new server to your cluster and move some of the larger websites to it.
