Unzip via file manager vs unzip via ssh

I've worked around this issue.. but it's got me confused.. I can't work out why it's happening. Let me explain:

zip up a folder (using your favourite zip utility)
Upload via file manager into public_html
Extract (uncompress) via file manager
Result: it's extracted inside a folder of the same name as the zip file. ie folder.zip > folder.zip

Result: files are extracted as it was compressed, ie not in a sub folder necessarily

I get it.. we're protecting users from doing stupid things (perhaps).. but sometimes I deliberately want to extract files and folders via the file manager. There is some kind of check being done in the file manger when uncompressing files. If it already contains a folder, it's extracted "correctly" ie not in a nested folder, yet if it contains files and not just folders, it's extracted in a new folder. Is it just me doing something unusual?

Probably right, I haven't encounter such issue yet, just noticed this once or twice while working with zip.. and i agree if its the case, file manager shouldn't extract zip in folder if its not compressed with a folder already in it, sometimes we have to quickly uncompress the content in a directory which might be a root of another domain or sub-domain and when it creates a folder we have to cut-paste/move its content back to the root folder and its a hassle especially with very large zip file..

This issue has been reported by me along with other file manager errors such as the problem with file compression. When you compress a folder, it compresses, but when you enter the directory and select files, the manager does not compress them. File manager modernization is planned, but I don't know when it will be completed.

This happens to me every time and it’s annoying as u will need to cut/paste the files again 😏

My usual workflow is to prepare the .zip locally and upload to my enhance website and then extract. However, I usually end up using wget from my local server to my enhance server as it's much faster anyway.. so while I am there, unzip works just fine.. it's more for those small uploads that this drives me nuts.

Edit: typing this out I see something else I could do.. use a better compression (zst, tar.gz etc) and just be done with the file manager for compression/extraction 😉

Have you noticed that files, for example, if you have a server set up with OpenLiteSpeed or LiteSpeed, transfer much faster than if the server is set up with Apache? I've also reported this issue.

File transfer is significantly faster when the OLS server is configured compared to Apache.

With the "weird" extract to filename.zip > filename folder issue i got used to it now.. what i do is i upload to the main user folder (root?)

Then rename the zip file as "public_html.zip" and hit extract. Then it does it perfectly.

SSH:
So when i had sites that were like 20-30gb i obviously just grab the files with WGET chucked them where they needed to be.

If i go into enhance file manager here > it will FAIL to unzip / untar because it is "not the owner". So i extract the archive using SSH then just change the "ownership" to the "database name" which i personally found a bit weird.

Via SSH it is just too invasive. So i think the file manager needs to just work.

I think if the file manager had WGET built into it (aapanel does thsi very well) you just hit download file and u can download a file from a remote server. Makes so much sense.

Then no one would need to bother with SSH'ing and changing ownership permissions.

If you su to the user before you do this the ownership will be correct when the file is saved/extracted etc.
