WordPress 429 error

Enhance runs wp core download --version={your_chosen_version} inside the website container to install WordPress. We have had a few reports of failures over the past 24 hours and this seems to be related to the WordPress download server giving a 429 error code to some IP ranges.

We are reporting this to WordPress. If you are seeing installation failures, please run:

wget https://en-US.wordpress.org/release/wordpress-6.5.2.tar.gz

If you get a 429 error, please post your server IP here or send it in a support ticket. We will include it in the report.

It's not that, nothing outside of your system will see what IP. The problem seems to be that WordPress are now rate limiting the region specific download URLs but only from some IP ranges. We will be reporting this to WordPress but we're also going to release an update which forces wp-cli to use downloads.wordpress.org instead.

Adam Not exactly pertinent to this problem, but we run WHMCS for hosting ordering/provisioning/support etc. and with each reboot of the LiteSpeed server the license key is invalidated for some reason We have to reissue the license key to get back into WHMCS and the problem is that the IP address detected is always 199.99.88.3 even though the license key fails to be recognized after every reboot for some reason.

It's merely an annoyance to reset each time, but I figured I'd report this as a problem we experience with the docker IP often.

For those of you affected by this, updating to 10.7.1 should resolve the issue since it now tries an alternative download URL.

This is very much unrelated to the WordPress issue. Nothing is happening remotely in this case, WHMCS just uses $_SERVER['SERVER_ADDR'] to obtain the server IP instead of using a "call home" method like most other commercial PHP apps. Are you sure it's always 199.99.88.3? It would make more sense that this was caused by the IP changing on restart.

The solution seems to hard code $_SERVER['SERVER_ADDR'] to the public IP of your server in configuration.php.

$_SERVER['SERVER_ADDR'] = "123.123.123.123";

For me, its MainWP, all website connected to MainWP show that their IP address is 199.99.88.3

Adam Right which is why I said "Not exactly pertinent to this problem" but the suggestion unfortunately doesn't help (I've already tried that long ago and again today.) I think WHMCS would be open to abuse of that was possible to be hardcoded in the configuration.php file.

I'm sure other clients have had success with this method - maybe it was in an auto_prepend_file or maybe the behaviour in lsphp is different and the constant can't be overridden. If you want me to take a look please send a support ticket. I'll need access to your WHMCS.

If you do talk to WHMCS licensing team they can resolve this issue for you… so you don’t have to keep reissuing the license on OLS and Enhance.
