Currently, when clicking the Configure GMAIL button, the following MX records are added:

ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM
ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM
ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM
ALT3.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM
ALT4.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM

It's worth noting that a correct SPF record is also required for proper GMAIL operation:

v=spf1 ip4:SERVER_IP include:_spf.google.com ~all

Therefore, I suggest that this record be automatically updated during the Gmail configuration as well.

Also, newly created Google Workspace accounts now only require a single MX record. I’m not saying enhance now needs to add more complexity to this.. but it might be simpler to just remove this tool??

xyzulu I think GOOGLE is experimenting with this, i have SOME customers with this requirement and some without.

Today I was configuring Google Workspace and it still required all MX records, not just one. Do you have a link to this information?

xyzulu Thanks. Strange thing, because today I was configuring it and Google Workspace still required me to enter 5 MX records. @Adam , check this out. It might be necessary to update the MX records to a single record: smtp.google.com.

You were probably adding an alias/secondary domain. New Google Workspace accounts only need the single MX record. I created one today and this was the behaviour.

@xyzulu From what I read, it depends on the account registration date. If the account was created before April 2023, you need to use 5 records. If after, then 1 MX record.

The language is confusing but it looks like they can be used interchangeably.

"You can use the 5 MX records shown in the previous section or the one in the table below." even for the new creations.

I suspect the docs are there to answer why some have 5 and others have 1 record. I get similar IPs for both sets which would mean the hostnames are not important.
