Disappointed About the Update 12.0.0 Delay

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share how frustrated I am about the delay of the 12.0.0 update from 26th August to 26th September. Like many of you, I've been really looking forward to this update. We’ve all been dealing with bugs, and there are so many features that need to be added. They’re a must for a control panel these days. And now, with this delay, it feels like we’re being let down.

What’s even more frustrating is that while Enhance hasn’t always been perfect about sticking to their update schedule, they’ve generally been reliable. So, this sudden delay really makes us wonder, why? Is it because the team is understaffed? Is the company struggling financially? We’ve been waiting for some kind of explanation, but so far, nothing from the Enhance team.

When you’re relying on a panel like Enhance for your infrastructure, clients, and overall business operations, you expect things to run smoothly, including timely updates. We pay for this service, and part of that is trusting that updates will come when they’re supposed to.

I want to be clear. I’m not here to bash Enhance or the team. I genuinely love this panel, and I haven’t found anything better out there. But these delays and the lack of communication are really disappointing. We just want to know what’s going on. And if a rise in the price of the panel could solve this by ensuring more resources or faster development, it’s something we’d like to know about.

I understand the point of not proposing a risky update, and rather postponing it to refine it, but at the same time being such an important update I don't understand the point of not writing a few lines here for giving some reasons. I would digest the delay better if I knew that the motivation was important, but simply postponing the date by 1 month gives more of the impression of a simple saving of effort.

In 2024 communication is very important, so regardless of whether it is right or wrong to postpone it for a month, I don't understand doing it "secretly" from one day to the next, without making a public post. I'm not saying that a post should be made for every delay or for everything, but for an important or long-awaited update I don't think it's a bad thing to communicate more.

That said, remaining objective the panel is excellent and more than usable, the support is always great, so this delay is not a serious problem, but, in my opinion, doing so without saying anything risks to send the message that the company does not have the resources to keep updated the software or to communicate to its customers, and this is a big problem instead.

Just ask Adam. Version 12.0.0 certainly won't be released this week, the team is working on the stability of this version and doesn't want to release something that could cause issues. Version 12.0.0 is significantly delayed, as far as I remember, it was originally planned for May or June? It's also one of the more important updates for me, but I prefer something stable released later rather than something released on time but full of bugs. I agree that customers should be better informed about delays compared to the roadmap. I think the Enhance team is relatively small, which is why the work takes longer compared to something like Plesk, where they release major updates almost every month.

Edit: I just noticed that it has been postponed to September 26th. That’s indeed a significant delay compared to the previous plans...

DracoBlue I support your opinion but posting a forum thread explaining why the update is being delayed doesn't take more than 5 minutes.

DracoBlue I appreciate that stability is a priority, but it’s important for us to be informed about what’s happening with the update. If there’s a delay, like pushing it back another month, we need to know so we can plan accordingly. It’s standard practice for the team to update clients in case of delays, rather than us having to ask.

I still think the roadmap is totally out of whack. Fire management should’ve been a day one release.

Days after the posting of this thread and the one from @xyzulu , no one from the Enhance team has answered anything here, which is indeed not the good reaction we are waiting for.

For me I suggest the roadmap to be quarterly as @twest suggested many times or even every 4-6 months.

Its better and leave room for small bugs & fixes between each major releases.

In software development, complaining about a delayed date makes little sense, honestly. The ETA is just an estimate, not a guarantee. Software development is complex and often unpredictable. Unforeseen challenges, bugs, or changes in requirements can cause delays.

The Enhance team should, however, improve their communication a bit.
Because this leaves room for all sorts of theories.

It must also be said that a community that is too rigid about ETAs often leads to roadmaps with the date ‘The release will be ready when it is ready’.

iotivedo I understand and accept that. However, what I'm not okay with is the lack of communication. They don't inform us of potential delays, which prevents us from taking timely action. It's not just a week-long delay, which could be acceptable, it's a month-long delay, and that's a significant issue.

The Enhance team does a better job than most at roadmap communication.

Frankly I'll take some slacking on the roadmap slide to keep enjoying the elite support that really differentiates the offering.

To be clear, I'm not saying anything bad about Enhance or the team. In my opinion, it's the best panel out there, and the Enhance team does a great job with support.

yeah it sucks. It happens. They are making quick decisions based on needs, issues, requirements that may not be readily apparent. They're still better than most of our other relationships.

It's not perfect. but it's pretty damn good.
