Great companies to rent servers?

We've build our own rack with servers and after I that experience, I would never lease a bare metal. Always VPS with dedicated vCPU.

And there is so many things to consider. We wanted to lease from Hetzner to start the business. But man, you can shot down the uplink with simple free ip stresser. And what support will do? "We have DDoS protection, but this was not DDoS, nothing we can do."

There are so many issues we went through. If I knew that all before, I would choose a different route. But hey 😃 we've build it and invested a lot of time and money and it's great now.

Main thing you need to ask yourself is what you are building and for whom. And find platform that has proven and is not connected to illegal stuff (DDoS network e.g.) with good support. And of course good enough hardware.

Who do you use for your VPS provider?

Avoid OVH, they have a lot of internal attacks that their edge firewall doesn't apply rules to.
They also have continues issues with their network, always some issue.

For what's worth, I've found that investing in owned dedicated servers is not the best thing to do; not unless you're an enterprise.

Servers go outdated fast. I've been down that road and will never do it again.

I have literally 0 issues with OVH.

From my own personal experience as someone who takes uptime and good quick support very seriously:

IOFlood with their garbage looking website is amazing. They have Ryzen and epyc servers now too. Their support is second to none. Only located in Arizona though. Only downtime (more like slowdown) I had was during an extremely large DDOS attack on their entire network late evening and it was resolved in 15 minutes.

Stay far far away from anything IONOS. They have very good prices and good hardware. They don't have a staffed data center 24/7 and won't help you if server is down Friday evening.

Cheap dedicated providers often use consumer grade drives among other things. Check what drives they use. If they are not data center grade don't waste your time.

MojoHost has very good support but I only use their very good VPS. In last two years there has been 17 minutes of network downtime. They sell dedicated but very expensive. Location Michigan and Florida. Extremely good network.

JohnB I would second that sentiment, IOFLOOD is excellent, there's another similar business in that same datacenter (phoenixnap) named 1gservers and they're also great, they collab with IOFLOOD sometimes, two good companies to get the best of phoenixnap without the abominable issues associated with buying from phoenixnap direct. IOFLOOD has some cool high storage VPS available too in a spinoff/subsidiary business.

Tier.net and PureVoltage are also excellent providers.

I would not trust dedis at ovh, they have a HIGH failure rate. Ovh VPS is pretty reliable though, good openstack setup. I would also avoid Linode, their VPS is extremely poorly managed, you will face high steal% regularly.

The storage spinoff is 1tbvps right? Have you used it? Was thinking of using it for enhance backups

JohnB yeah that's the one. I haven't used it because it's too small for my needs, but I have a colleague that uses it and he's been really happy.

It's pretty economical, I've thought about using a series of those VPS to handle our enhance backups, just don't want to add the hassle of managing updates for an extra 10 servers at the moment lol

ivansalloum I've never used them, but I've read many horror stories about people getting shut down for the stupidest reasons, like having too many servers (I guess they don't like too much concentration of hardware on one customer?), and they're cutthroat about DMCA and email/IP complaints = sometimes they won't even give a warning, just toss you out on your ass from what I've read.

My suggestion for Hetzner would be to make sure their email addresses are whitelisted in your email and keep a close eye out for any complaint emails and respond immediately to any inquiries, if one of your customers draws a single complaint consider shutting them down to prevent any further infractions, and consider disabling all outbound email ports.

twest I've been using Hetzner for years and have never encountered any issues. However, I haven't used them for a hosting business or large-scale projects. I've also seen a lot of discussion about how restrictive they can be with their infrastructure, but I've never experienced that myself. Out of curiosity, I looked into alternative EU server providers, but I haven't found anything better so far.

I use Hetzner VPS. Don't host email as they have a low tolerance for spam and sometimes have false positives.

If you actually check your email registered with Heztner. Usually they will warn but they only give less than a day sometimes to resolve more serious issues. A lot of the horror stories are from people who check their email a few times a week and/or didn't see the warning email or thought they could ignore it and then they play the victim.

Any major or respectable provider will suspend your account if you cause DMCA complaints repeatedly or don't respond to warnings. A lot of bad reviews will be people claiming to be innocent but in reality they were hosting movies and stuff. Can't expect a warning if your account is a month old and you're already violating TOS.

Their performance and stability is very good. Support I haven't needed yet.

I've been testing Interserver after hearing about them on Reddit. Really liking it so far! Aside from the web hosting server, I bought a 10TB storage for $25/month that I'm using to host media for my Jellyfin server, working great as well!

I've been using SSD NODES, (https://www.ssdnodes.com/) never heard of them before a months ago, they're not high performance dedicated vCPU vps servers but they getting job done. I always hunt for new players and doing so found them, going well so far given im only using them for 4-5 months now.

Can anyone suggest good high performance vps with dedicated vCPU in india DC, with reasonable price?

pratik_asabe well, I would not trust them 😃 the prices are ridiculous. Even Hetzner can't beat that and they are cheap as hell.

Also, I don't order anything anymore, if I don't know at least part of the specs of the server the VPS runs on. "Intel silver" can be anything from 1.9 GHz scalable to ~ 3.9 GHz few core machine. And sice they offer limit of 12 vCPUs even in top tier, I am quite sure what is running there. Also you have no idea about RAM and NVMe. NVMe is absolutely useless, if the CPU is bottleneck (we tested with our setup). Also they don't mention anywhere if it is dedicated / shared.

What VPS providers like to do is run as much cores (which is not the problem itself) with shared 3:1 ratio. So e.g. you have (as we have) 22-core (44 threads) intel CPUs, that are fully fine for 99.9 % WordPress websites (not woo) and most basic PHP apps (and quite a lot of NodeJS apps), BUT they create VPS for you with shared CPU settings. So instead of 7 users with 7x12 threads, you get 21x12 users, cause they share the CPU. And that's why the price is so low. We can do it also, but do not want to. So we offer either shared hosting with limit how many people we put there so it is still "dedicated" or VPS with dedicated CPU.

PS: they are telling you on their website in FAQ "optimize resource sharing with unparalleled efficiency" (yeah, ...).

Long story short, be aware of these practices, before you go full steam rolling into someone's VPS. It can be enough if you know what you are doing, but imagine waiting couple of seconds each time before CPU time is allowed for you.

sikmo I completely agree with you, im in this for a long time, i know the tradeoff we have to make in such scenarios that is why i always hunt for new players to find out what new we can explore.. but instead of do and linode which are way expensive we can always try to find nice blend of price to performance.

pratik_asabe there are plenty of "new players" but I always find that if they have acceptable price, they have to cheap-out on some critical part of their architecture.

E.g. https://www.serverwala.com/, boys did not setup correctly many things. The admin is horrible and after two/three weeks I got email "your server was corrupted, here is your new one, we are sorry, you will not have your data back" (I literally have just bought the VPS and there was nothing on it).

Then you can look https://pq.hosting/, but after quick search, you find out that they are supported by Russia and use their infra for DDoS. Great, that is no-go.

And I could go on and on 😃 I tried like 30-50 providers in last few months alone and each time I find some absolutely horrible thing.
