Some staging sites don't resolve

Hi there

I purchased a domain for staging sites and the nameservers are pointed at my enhance server.

However what I'm finding is that some of my staging sites resolve, and others don't. It seems at random. For example right now I have a site which was not resolving at all, and now when I visit it is trying to download the page instead of loading. Other staging sites on the same setup work fine.

Appreciate any pointers on how to resolve this.

wrapper sounds like a problem with webserver. When a page downloads instead of loading, it's a compatibility with cache plugin and webserver, usually seen in nginx/litespeed. If that happens again, try disable cache plugin on the website or change webserver to apache.

It could be that you tried to visit immediately after creation and your ISP's DNS resolver has cached the NXDOMAIN response.

If you imported the site from another server, it might have a custom AddType in the .htaccess. Remove that line and it should fix your problem.

However @Adam I still have issues with this staging site not resolving for some visitors. Any ideas what might be going wrong? It has been plenty of time for the DNS to resolve.

Yes, we too have faced this issue.
Created the website around 5 days back, still the DNS propagation is not done properly.
Also, this is a new website, with no .htaccess.
@Adam, Please help.

Open a ticket with Enhance if you need help. That being said, I am not convinced you have an problem with Enhance, but it's also hard to "teach"/check DNS to someone without even knowing the url/ip etc.

xyzulu I will reach out to the Enhance team, but posting on the forums, might be helpful for future users who face the same issue and instead of creating a ticket and waiting for a reply they will find answers easily, and the Enhance team will have lesser tickets for the same issue.

How do you know that this isn't an Enhance issue? And what do you mean by "teach" someone knowing URL/IP?

Enhance DNS works.. I don't see what the issue may be without being able to actually check your DNS for you. By "teach" I mean.. as a server admin you should already know all of this.. how to test etc, and if you don't it's very hard to teach you in a forum post.

Hello xyzulu With all due respect, I have checked everything, and then only I have made a forum post. We have been using Enhance since 2022, and know how it works, where to check DNS, etc.

Have you overridden your local hosts file with the direct IP and tested? Tested via VPN, ie Opera VPN to rule out a local issue on your end? Tried changing your DNS server? Used a DNS propagation site to check propagation? Cloned the site to a new domain (temporary), deleted the current site and then recloned back?

The OP "it tried to download the page instead of loading" means it's not DNS. As usual assumptions were made out of lack of knowledge.

No offense but to me "still the DNS propagation is not done properly" also sounds like someone assuming. No mention of what was checked. htaccess in cannot impact DNS at all.

Unfortunately enhance seems to attract people who should be using an enhance hosting provider NOT playing server admin.

I agree with this statement, a good chunk of questions I see on this forum are around server management rather than Enhance. I remember watching a Webinar with Adam a little while back where he mentioned most of the support requests Enhance receive is around general sysadmin rather than Enhance.

I don't mind it as long as people are really putting forth effort and not bullshitting. We all had to learn somewhere at some point. Best thing to do is set ppl on the right path, stress to them the value of reading docs, and backups backups backups lol
