Hi, I'd like to share my thoughts on OpenLiteSpeed. I've been testing it on my server for a year now, and I'm very satisfied with how this web server performs. I previously used Apache, and in my opinion, OLS has a much faster response time and is less resource-intensive. If the Enhance team introduces persistent OLS configurations, in my opinion, there will be no competition in production environments when it comes to performance. OLS supports HTTP/3 / QUIC V2. What’s your opinion? Is anyone using OLS on production servers?

I have always used it and I perfectly agree with you and for my experience it is also much faster than Nginx and you can verify it by looking for Google, also at the safety level it has nothing to envy to anyone and to finish for finals users that use WordPress is also available the excellent official "Litespeed Cache" official plugin which is fantastic.

As soon as Enhance Control Panel will make the persistence of the OpenLiteSpeed (OLS) configuration available will be perfect and above all a granular and high precision purpose of the WebServer OpenLitespeed (OLS) will be possible to make a further and significant improvement of the already excellent performance of the Webserver Openlitespeed (OLS).

DracoBlue I was using OLS before enhance, on directadmin, and on runcloud before that, so i can say with confidence that i agree with you OLS has proven itself far far better option than Apache, in terms of speed, performance and resource utilization! It handles requests in a superior manner and i even once used apache with lsphp on directadmin via cloudlinux's mod_lsapi and that worked somewhat great too, not like native OLS with lsphp but superior performance than php-fpm.

Im now waiting for the persistent config update from enhance.

Customisations made in Openlitespeed admin panel will persist when updates are made to the website/vhost through the Enhance panel. This mirrors the existing functionality for commercial Litespeed.

franco Yes, I’ve seen it, but it seems to me that we won’t see it in December, only in the new year. But time will tell.

We're using it too and i'm found it way faster than Apache. We're using default Enhance OLS configuration and i think it's fine for most uses, but which customizations do you think will be good when persistent conf will be available?

I can't find any docs from Enhance on how to access OLS WebAdmin. Don't know where to find or set the access pass for it. Any buddy could help me with it? Thank you!

bgeek Using this command you can reset the admin password for the web access:

docker exec -it openlitespeed /usr/local/lsws/admin/misc/admpass.sh

Than, open the 7080 port and you will be able to enter in the admin webpage of OLS 🙂

We've been running ELS for a year in order to have access to the config and it has performed flawlessly. Lowered server load by about 20% across the board. LSPHP makes wp-admin very snappy/fast, it's as good as highly optimized Apache+Redis.

I don't think I would use OLS for shared hosting environments, but as a low cost option it would be awesome for customers with dedicated servers or their own VPS. Just need the persistent config so we can tune it (ols as-is isn't a good fit for large servers since you can't even increase the number of workers or other settings).

I think Enhance will be the only control panel in the market that has a persistent config and htaccess support. That will be a pretty big deal for Enhance 🙂

twest really that high? based on docs and feedback from people I did expect lower load but by only like 5 %. do you have more info why is that number high?

sikmo it's LSPHP for sure, so much more efficient than php-fpm or other php processors. On our cPanel servers we use CloudLinux and use LSPHP with Apache there too, it's amazing. It would be awesome if Enhance could add support for LSPHP on Apache, I'd totally drop the ELS licenses.

Works great for me. I use small (comparitively) VPS servers not very large dedicated machines, so I don't run into the workers/thread limitations of OLS.

Nginx can beat it and doesn't have the security issues but you have to know what you're doing and its more finicky. Be great if enhance added proper support for Nginx with a good caching solution.

sikmo I have to use ELS because I need access to the config. OLS is limited to the default config, for example only 1 worker. Our servers are dedis 50cpu/250gb ram, if we used OLS on it we wouldn't be able to use half our system resources due to LS worker limitation. We run the 3-worker ELS and it runs smooth, the workers aren't being overloaded.

When OLS can have persistent config, then it will be suitable for larger servers. As it is, it's only good for smaller servers - otherwise it will be the bottleneck as the 1 worker is limited to how much data it can process.

The worker setting is only part of it. We optimize the rest of the config on ELS to account for the larger server size too. OLS config currently cannot be optimized for large servers.

lefteris the biggest difference isn't a setting, it's the PHP processor. Apache uses php-fpm, while ELS/OLS use LSPHP. LSPHP hass much better efficiency.

Besides efficiency, LSPHP also does not need a custom config on per-website basis... With Apache on php-fpm, we had to optimize php-fpm for every website/package, as small packages need smaller php-fpm config than large packages that have more CPU/ram... With LSPHP we don't need to do that, LSPHP is good 1 config for all size packages.

We are using Nginx and found it better than OLS without caching .... its much more stable.

The issue with nginx on enhance is you cannot modify the config as you want 😏

Copernic optimizing OLS would be fine if we had a persistent config. As it is, there's no persistent config. So if you go optimizing OLS now, prepare to watch your config get deleted at some point. I don't remember what Adam said specifically about it, I think he said something about the config getting wiped during any vhost changes, or whenever OLS is restarted (like when a htaccess file is updated)... So you could be needing to optimize your config multiple times a day every day lol
