mike Simply put, our customer base and thus their end-user requirements may be very different. You can read elsewhere where I have mentioned issues with our customers needing things or seeing things that take too many steps (getting to DNS records for instance; and the need for logs), but since we are a boutique hostel (for shared hosting) we hand-hold them in any case.
For us, since our customer base is significantly smaller than others here, the overall experience has been a qualified success, and in particularly since we use LiteSpeed, hosting is blazing fast.
As you stated, everyone is different, and we all have differing end-user/customers.
