twest This is the sad state of affairs, it's always investors buying in early or buying out, consolidating businesses, services and offerings into their tight grip of control. All ultimately owned in part or all by the likes of blackrock, vangaurd and others...
As much as my purist heart says no I will deliver email from my own servers, I am already having to start using services like mail.baby just to improve deliverability. Doesn't matter if you can run your service clean, you're generally locked out as a small player from ever entering the market, unless you sold out at the start to a VC and are already owned with mega advertising bucks to blast off with.
I keep getting emails on Linkedin from VC's asking for a meeting, as potential investors and I resist. Maybe that's my folly and I'll end up in the grave instead of on mars with my robo wifes. lol
I love the idea of running my own DNS, CDN, Email etc... sad fact is we just can't compete anymore for many of these services. Our offering is too small or costs too much to scale up. Dammed be the math overlords of capitalism.
DNS and Email (partially) are all that I offer beyond hosting and consulting. Give it 5 years and we'll having fleets of AI works, within 10 they'll be managing us as useful keep arounds.
