I never had issues with hetzner apart from the lack of ddos protection.

OVH have been hosting with since 2010, never experienced hardware failure, never needed their support I could always do everything within the panel .

Random question I had sent to the support, like to stop server cancellation took 7 working days to receive a reply .
2 years ago I could just phone them in Canada , this changes since they went public .

Quality wise are better and more stable than hetzner but they are also more expensive ... Choose the one you like and spread through different dcs - companies, or Colo your own equipment

I use OVH dedicated servers, other than the cpu clock speed being lower as the cpus are aged its been rock solid for me. Support have usually being prompt enough for me.

I hear their VPS options are not very good though, but I cant comment as I have not used them in a while.

I'm UK based and I tend to use Katapult (Krystal) although I believe they only have data centres in UK and USA at the moment. They are a little more pricey than some providers but I align with their ethos as a company so I do use them a lot.

Wtf. Do they think thermal paste is like oil in an old oil burning car? Or do they just use such garbage thermal paste that it dries up quickly.

Or maybe they don't stress test newly built servers....

JohnB it was way too sus. You know they like to brag about how they keep costs down by designing and manufacturing their own custom mobos/servers, well I think they actually keep costs down by using the lowest quality materials possible. The failure rate was just insane. This was on their higher end rigs too! Thank god for having a great backups strategy, or ovh would have put me out of business.

I'm yet to see bad thermal paste kill or thermal throttle a CPU to the point it was noticeably unusable. Certainly not since speedstep and turbo boost became a thing.
I'd probably put it down to the cooler becoming unseated, no redundancy in cooling or if it was one of their watercooled machines a hose becoming kinked.

Zoinkies My brother in Christ, the network was one of their biggest pit-falls, they don't have any internal firewall or security, or even a edge firewall that works yet.

At-least in Aus/SG it was pretty decent from external threats and performed well within our small island. Maybe it's different in other regions.
The issue was people DDoS'ing us from within OVH's network that caused real problems.

JohnB applying thermal paste is art. I got laptop I had to apply thermal paste 5-6 times until I get it right. Other systems I put thermal paste from first time but that laptop needed it somehow on diff way…
Diff cpu diff cooler. However I strongly recommend Arctic for thermal paste !

Kosta it's tricky if you lack experience. I grew up building computers and then later did it professionally. I will say, many heatsink brands just straight up lie about their cooling capacity.

Most people's issue is they put on too much or use a brand that's sensitive to air bubbles. Or they don't COMPLETELY clean the CPU and heatsink.

Artic or better is great. But cheapskates like ovh will be using that garbage white toothpaste stuff.

twest Yeah these days if you are using a high quality brand that won't be causing air bubbles. Supposedly it used to be an issue back when the white crap was used commonly. Any spatula type applicator will waste far more paste than a finger.

I know Intel and AMD all claim to just use a dot in center or x pattern etc but when I tested, I got no difference. I like knowing every bit is covered. Youtubers say I'm wrong but they also recommend NordVPN and Shadow Legends so...

Fun fact Artic silver doesn't taste as bad as you'd think

Sadly I bet they start out there as good engineers. Then eventually having pride in their work gets beat out of them and they just do their shitty job.

Doing something correctly is always more time consuming and a lot of companies punish you for being "slow". Eventually, employees that are capable of very good work just stop caring.

They stop showing up each day wanting to do good work they can be proud of. They show up and put a dot on a CPU that still has plastic on it while thinking about getting paid on Friday.
