I prefer spending on social, like Facebook. It's because you can get a engagement multiplier with social = first the audience sees your ad, then some of them will also end up liking/following your page, then you can continue marketing to those followers and their friends for free. The likes also give your business some "social credibility" = a page with 1k likes is more likely to be trusted than a page with 10 likes.
I find conversion rates on social to actually be better than anything else. Though we package ads with freebies and tutorials to give some value, and we will sometimes push "viral" ads (silly things, memes), which often gets a convo started and sometimes turns into a conversion.
