Choosing Between Upmind and Blesta

Hi everyone,

I’m currently deciding between Upmind and Blesta as billing systems for my hosting business, and I’m looking for some advice from anyone who has experience with either of them.

Could someone who uses one of these systems share what it looks like and how it integrates with Enhance CP? I’m particularly looking for something modern, user-friendly, and easy to manage, as I find WHMCS to be quite outdated, expensive, and time-consuming.

Your feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Obviously we're bias as a company that makes 3rd party integrations for Blesta. However, you get access to the code (Besides 3 files for licensing) with Blesta. The only limitation is your ability to modify or find someone to modify! I wouldn't use a billing system I don't host myself, It's a non-starter for us!

We operate multiple companies with Blesta, It has it's quirks and learning curve but I can honestly say I've never dreaded making a change, performing an update or wondered what the annual price rise will be this year 😉

I prefer Blesta because I can host it myself and not be reliant on if upmind is online or not.

I’m in the same boat as @blestaclub, comparing Blesta to Upmind. In my view, Blesta comes out ahead for several reasons:

Fully Customizable: Blesta offers extensive flexibility to tailor the system to your specific needs.
Cost-Effective: It’s cheaper both in the short term and long term.
Self-Hosted: Being self-hosted means you’re not affected by potential issues on Upmind’s servers.
Data Ownership: With Blesta, your data is always under your control and inaccessible to Upmind. This is particularly important for GDPR compliance and other regulatory requirements.

I use Upmind since I started using Enhance and had no issues so far. Yet I find the comments here about Blesta very interesting and I am tempted to consider it as well in the future due to data own/privacy reasons. For now I'll stick to Upmind as it's easy to use, it was super fast and easy to setup and has a modern UI out the box. From what I can see, Blesta requires separate templates to be purchased and some configuration and potential dev time which I cannot afford to do right now.

So if you want something fast to setup and use, with a modern UI out the box ...

Also Upmind has a free version which you can use with quite some generous limits.

Also, it's not dead, I found they do update quite regularly and their support is very responsive.

Yes UPMIND is a hosted platform. Kinda ironic to host somewhere else lol.
I love the GUI but these guys have way too long to go.

I am thinking if I should switch. I need a particular feature for Stripe webhook that they promised me since I started using the Upmind platform, and yet it's not yet here and they said it will be around 9 months ago.

I am curious, are there really such big differences and is it worth switching to Blasta? Why did you choose Blasta?

laudenbachm So..... drinking my coffee and I got curious! Looking at the code for the WHMCS module, Looks like we have a couple more features and a little more flexibility on how you sell your services along with more information client-side!

I haven't installed it however, just glanced at the functions - I could be wrong! If there is something that you personally use for measurement of better by all means, ask me! I find most users just want basic provisioning and SSO which all the modules look to do. We just have a little more flexibility as we're very approachable on adding features for clients if they sponsor it OR if we think it's such a good idea we want it ourselves so we've added a few bits that most wouldn't bother to add!

If you decide to go ahead with blesta, please ensure that you can do or find someone to code/debug/customize things on demand as you may face many hits and downs on the way.

Isn't the fact that you can customize on demand a good thing compared to upmind ?

I have been using Blesta since 2013. Yes, it is a real benefit that we customize code and write our own modules on demand ( we are enjoying it as well ). But we face many issues now and in the past where we need a developer head to understand the issue and possibly troubleshoot it. We have open cases with an officially supported payment gateway and a few other cases. Blesta is still good and a good alternative to other billing panels avauilable... but to meet all your needs you may need a developer around to help.

It is the RazorPay payment gateway integration issue. We are facing various issues in receiving payments from day one. The current issue is for receiving UPI payments...blesta records the payment as 0. So we need to manually verify the payment and record it in the client's account.
