Replicating/mirroring PostgeSQL of CP for disaster recovery

Hello,
First apologies for my suggestion for veem backup on CP server! I know it it’s breaking the data of PostgreSQL but I just forgot.

Second I need advice for solution for disaster recovery on CP server Database…

I’ve read some stuff on google about mirroring, replicating PostgreDB for disaster recovery but I prefer to ask here for advice. as I believe CP uses PostgreDB…

Does anyone here got some experience with some mirroring/ replicating PostgreDB ?

Will be really helpful if I can make some mirroring/ replicating and storing data to Amazon S3 etc… for disaster recovery.

So even if we got to inconsistency of the data we still to be able to copy the data from secondary node or S3 storage and get back online in less than hour in case of some failure etc…

If someone has some experience with this, please share some info.

Why not just get a vps? Most providers have block level snapshots available that should work in a pinch to restore a dead server. Might need some help from Adam to get network config fixed, but otherwise I think that should work fine, it's the recommended best practice for now until V12 comes out with an option to make a different server the control panel role.

I think the next best option would be to roll out your own vps on a dedi with something like Proxmox so you could then do your own snapshots which you could store locally or externally.

twest my other option is to put it under MicroCloud, I preferred instead of proxmox as u advised, but for some reasons I prefer to be on little Dedi server my CP, and maybe replicating the postgre data to VPS etc currently in my mind. Reason is I want all to be on my own IT etc..

You can just have a cron that dumps the DB every x time and uploads to S3.

I don't trust VPS snapshots because most of the time you can't actually test them (without downtime). Some providers lot you create an image from the snapshot and fire that up on another server, but you are still at their mercy. If they suspend your account you are screwed.

That said, restoring the VPS snapshot to the same server (IP) will be the most painless when it works. Just a good idea to have the actually data backed up somewhere else too. I have restored a snapshot once and everything worked fine afterwards in Enhance.

Since you're not live yet, just wait for V12 and sleep easy.

JohnB yeah this with simple cron job task will be the easiest and cheapest, to secure our DB data to off site S3 storage, thanks
