I'd wait with manually deleting stuff until all bugs related to backups are sorted out. And also until the relevant folders are clearly orphaned after the retention period has passed. 'Should get deleted' refers to the Control Panel or Backup Server doing it automatically at some point. Or spin up a new backup server, move all websites to the new Backup role and see what's left, but this will probably duplicate whatever was de-duplicated with the old snapshots system, so beware of space and bandwidth.
