Best Company/Server for Enhance-Backup

Do you have suggestions? I am now on AlphaVPS which are good and cheap.
But only 4 TB will be not enough I think.

Beni It is supposed that with the new version of Enhance (v12) it will no longer be necessary to make this configuration to host backups on a regular VPS. In that case, you could already use Interserver.

The issue with Enhance is that it runs concurrent backups from the Webserver/Application role server. So, if you have 10 web servers but only one VPS for backups, that VPS has to handle 10 backups simultaneously. If your hosted websites take up several gigabytes, you'll likely run into issues, and backups may fail. To avoid this, you'll need NVMe/SSD storage and a good CPU, or consider switching to a dedicated server.

I resolved this by upgrading from HDD to NVMe, which significantly improved backup performance.

I was using hetzner since the volume can easily be used for the backup role, its unmounted and they give you the drive location, havent checked if 12.0 was the update to make it easier

dilroopgill In v12 you don't need to have the file system for the backup drive as btrfs (this is a change). You'll still need an unmounted partition as I understand (when you first setup the role). I don't think v12 will make using Hetzer or any other provider like them any different however.

I tried this, but one 200MB website, being backed up every 4 hours for 14 days, went from +/- 250MB on the old server to 17GB on the new server.

There are still advantages of using a separate BTRFS disk

v12 hasn't been out 14 days.. how did you try it? What file system did you use? EXT4 ?
In v12 you still need a separate disk, but it doesn't have to be BTRFS formatted (I assume Enhance will ask you to choose the FS when adding the backup role now)

PS We currently use btrfs on a SSD disk for our backup servers

I just plonked the backup role on a spare empty VPS with single disk ext4. It didn't ask for a device, just a path/mountpoint. The mountpoint didn't even exist, it just created the directory at the mountpoint. And when moving that one site as test, it took up 17GB on the new Backup role VPS. So it works, but with zero deduplication.

I definitely hope that for new backup roles on servers with a dedicated block device, it will still format/mount it as btrfs and do the snapshot thing it did on V11, but I'm not rebuilding that backup server yet to find out.

rdbf fascinating.. I can see in the v12 demo site no device is requested (v11 needs a device). I wonder why this feature was moved up? (mount anywhere, no need for a separate device)
I wonder if this a bug? Surely there have to be at the least incremental backups being taken?

After running a test with a new empty VPS with a separate partition, formatted to BTRFS and mounted as /backups, creating just the backup role and moving a website from the old backup role to the new backup role, I can confirm the following:

There's no snapshots or subvolumes made.
Every folder is just a full copy of the original

Then running a manual backup:

It creates a new full backup
There's no snapshots or subvolumes made.

The old backup system with snapshots isn't working anymore.......

Didn’t test this myself yet on v12, but it’s best to open a ticket with Enhance. Adam doesn’t catch every post here on the forum, and this sounds like something they’d want to know about.

Some feedback that I received:

Enhance no longer uses btrfs snapshots but you should see de-duplication through hard links. Some customers have reported excessive space usage and we are looking into that.
